Fairy Tales & Hidden Trails - Abimelech’s Subclass Guides IX: Fey Options

Theme

The theme of this supplement revolves around the Fey, the Feywild, and the myths and legends that inspired them. Some subclasses are more directly tied to this theme, such as the Barbarian’s Path of the Crimson Cap or the Sorcerer’s Faerie Bloodline. These subclasses are linked to specific fey creatures, redcaps and fairies respectively, granting abilities and features that reflect their nature, like the fairy’s diminutive size and wings or the redcap’s heavy iron boots and bloodthirsty nature. Others draw from broader concepts or locations associated with the fey, rather than individual creatures. The Ranger’s Wild Hunt Conclave is an example of this, inspired by the legend of the Wild Hunt, where the greatest fey hunters ride through the skies with their hounds in search of prey.

This supplement does not favor any single damage type, instead offering a wide variety, with nearly every type getting some recognition. Key features focus on the ethereal and unpredictable nature of the fey, frequently incorporating abilities that cause or resist the charmed and frightened conditions. Teleportation is another recurring theme, with multiple subclasses gaining the ability to magically move through the borders of the Feywild.

This supplement allows you to create characters deeply entwined with the myths and legends of the fey, opening new doors for interesting plot hooks, immersive roleplay, and exciting combat encounters. Each subclass has been thoughtfully designed to offer a balanced, fun, and unique experience that goes beyond what is available through official content, ensuring fresh possibilities for even the most experienced players.

Organization

Each item in the tome is alphabetized with the other items of its type, with a fully hyperlinked table of contents for easy navigation.

In addition, each subclass has its own page for easy copy/pasting and snipping.

Connections

Each of Abimelech’s Subclass Guides has a tome from the Tomes of Melchior series that goes with it, with this one being connected to Whispers of Fey and Forest – The Tomes of Melchior IX: Feywild Spells. Certain subclasses within this book gain access to spells from that supplement but don't worry if you don't own it. Each subclass with such a reference has an optional list of spells drawn entirely from the player's handbook. If you are interested, the links are below.

Design Goals

The goal of these books is to add new subclasses, feats, fighting styles, and eldritch invocations for both the players and NPCs that are fun, unique, and balanced. The contents of this book are not mean to overshadow or replace the official content, just add a greater variety for fun combinations, characters, and interesting encounters. In addition, unless there are very specific limitations on your campaign setting, all the contents are designed to be setting-neutral, so they can be dropped in with no problems.

Balance especially is very important to me. I am a strong believer that unbalanced content will almost always reduce the fun at a table. Due to this, I have done everything I can to ensure the supplements are balanced with the official content’s level of power.

About Me

I am a just about forever-DM with well over 10k hours invested in the D&D 5e edition system. I’ve created and run multiple homebrewed campaigns in several homebrew settings, and thusly have a lot of experience creating content for D&D 5e. A lot of these spells started as just fun ideas I wanted to introduce to my players, but eventually, I decided that I’d like to spread them to other tables, with the hope that they would enjoy them as much as my players did.

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
