Oldskull Solitaire Book One - Quests & Characters

ADD TO WISHLIST >

Choose your own adventures.

Stalk as a lone wolf hero, fighting though fantasy worlds of sword and sorcery.

Oldskull Solitaire, Book 1: Quests & Characters is a deluxe toolbox supplement designed to bring your solo adventures to life.

You can use this tome to provide extra options for your favorite Community DMsGuild or Dungeons & Dragons solitaire system, such as the excellent Solo Adventurer’s Toolbox, the Dungeon Oracle, the Solitaires Method, Gary Gygax’s dungeon-generating Appendix A, or any “sandbox” setting of your own devising. You can even use this book on its own to guide your personal storytelling and world design, leading you into fantastic new worlds far beyond the Dreamlands.

Author Kent David Kelly – creator of over 100 RPG supplements including Castle Oldskull, the Classic Dungeon Design Guides, the Game World Generator, Grimrook, Hawk & Moor, and Oldskull Swords & Sorcery – is proud to bring you this treasury of solo play options that will empower all of your future adventures into 2025 and beyond.

Within this guiding tome you will find thousands of innovative adventure elements, including 34 reliable story paths, 25 aspiring backgrounds, 105 story-driving traits, 84 fate-altering bonds, 105 adventure-motivating goals, 72 conflict-inducing flaws, 4,000+ evocative character names, 59 pieces of unique special equipment, 300+ trinkets of destiny, 360 Immortals and Fates, 75 dramatic framing events, and more.

You will also discover quest generators and the Oldskull Oracle, a complete symbolic imagination system that you can power through endless D100 rolls, or with your favorite deck of tarot cards. Both types of emergent play are supported by the Oracle, and you can switch between dice and cards on a moment’s notice without disrupting your adventures.

The (unaffiliated) Solo Adventurer’s Toolbox is recommended as a companion to this book, but it is optional nonetheless. You decide how much structure you want to add to your solitaire quests and journeys.

Adventure hopes to find us all. Enter a never-ending world filled with endless stories still untold. You do not need a Game Master to use this book. In solo play you can become a heroic reflection of yourself, or someone else entirely. Explore worlds of your imagination, brave perils and storms, befriend wondrous creatures and conquer monstrous foes. You make every choice, and you control the manner in which these fantastical tales unfold.

Oldskull Solitaire represents the first volume of an exciting new supplement series that will be powered by you, and your requests. If there is something more you want to see, it can all be created for you in the future. All you need to begin is a here. Answer the call to adventure, and begin your hero’s tale today!

An epic DMsGuild exclusive, designed to celebrate 5E as well as One. From Kent David Kelly and Wonderland Imprints, Only the Finest Works of Fantasy. (70,000 words, 51 tables, 140 illustrations, 214 pages.)

A question...I love Oldskull, so much that I have started purchasing my high use (adventure crafter for one) products in physical form. I primarily play in SOLO mode and your products are the awesomest! I have been collecting but its a little difficult to sometimes tell the differences between the products, how they are related to each other, and what products have what other individually purchased products...Is there somewhere where we can spider map them?

Hi there Evelyn, good to hear from you. Glad you're enjoying the books so far. I don't have it ready yet, but you might be pleased to know that I'm creating a guide to all 130-odd books and how they all interact with one another. I hope to have it out later this summer.

Hi there William, good to hear from you. The answer for this one is no, at least not in the beginning. But that may change in the future if it has bestseller status, or if my physical book layout skills significantly improve. I would probably need technical assistance to make a physical book version that would be error free.

Sure thing, you're welcome. If that initial read changes, I will make an announcement. Enjoy the book!

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
