A 4-hour Adventure for Levels 5-10 (Tier 2, APL 8)

Adventurers League legal - Forgotten Realms Dungeoncraft

A shadow lies over the sands - you need to know more, before it's too late...

Shadow on the Sands is an exciting standalone adventure that can be played as a prequel to the WOTC hardcover adventure Vecna: Eve of Ruin. It has an engaging and accessible story, 4 beautiful battlemaps and art, and even a wagon token in case of player shenanigans! This adventure features a wide range of gameplay, with meaningful choices and the potential for challenging combat, and enough intrigue to keep things interesting for every party. The action takes place in the Anauroch Desert, between the well-known adventuring basins of the Sword Coast and the Moonsea.

Included you will find:

  • The core adventure clearly laid out in 13 pages - it is easy to run and has room for a DM to put their own spin on things!
  • Guidance on how to run exciting combats, and how to give your players opportunities to let their characters go wild.
  • 3 beautiful and clear battlemap licensed from The Reclusive Cartographer, and another from the author. Print and VTT copies.
  • Reference art for significant NPCs, scenes, and objects.
  • All the monster stats blocks.
  • A printer-friendly version of the pdf.

What your players will experience [spoilers!]

A Strange Dream - The characters find their dreams troubled by the image of an obelisk looming over the sands of a desert. It's clear that destiny has an eye on the characters, and so it's hardly a surprise that Elminster recruits them to investigate the cause of this.

An Ambush - The characters hunt for the location of the obelisk and are ambushed in the desert by kobolds and more.

A Scouting Mission - A tense scouting mission awaits the characters, where their choices matter. They'll need to be skillful and have a good plan, but even if they do they'll be in for a wild ride!

Many fixed typos, significantly improved readability and formatting consistency from v1.3 onwards. So if you have an earlier version please head to Account - Updated Titles and get the new and improved copy! Apologies for not catching this stuff prior to release.

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.
Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
