The Vagabond, a 5e Class

Love multiclassing, but you're never able to quite hone in on your concept? Too many levels in different classes got you lagging behind the party? Enter the vagabond, a class designed to multiclass within itself. Knacks allow you to gain proficiencies, spellcasting, and other essential abilities, and with your bouts of borrowed knowledge you can emulate features from other classes, combining them with the customization of the vagabond to create your own unique playstyle.

There's also a pirate subclass. Yeah. Pirates.

Pick from four Vocations:
Ascetic. An inspiring support class that comes stronger the more punishment it takes.
Corsair. It's a pirate. It's probably what you're going to play. Pew pew, firearms!
Guardian. Tank with style. Reaction hit EVERYTHING.
Stranger. An assassin that blends in everywhere. Also, assassinate.

Like the Vagabond? Try the classes below as well! Each provides a similiar level of customization and unique playstyle:

Want to try them all? Save big on purchasing the Alternative Class Pack Bundle!
  • 1.5 Release: Huge update. New knacks, knowledges, and experiences. Includes optional cantrips and rebalance of the Ascetic, along with some new wording and typo/spelling fix. Also, new PDF format! Looks way better.

UPDATE: I'm playing two different Vagabonds in two different campaigns and the class is flat out excellent. Most fun I've had with characters of any kind. Seriously fantastic and keeps getting better as it levels. HIGHLY RECOMMEND

After playing up to level 3 (so far) as my Vagabond, I can safely say it's as fun as I thought it would be upon purchase/reading. There are two Vagabonds in our campaign and they are turning into totally different types of characters. So much customization potential to fit any style of play for someone who wants a sort of jack of all trades type character that's pretty good at a lot of things but not specialized in any one area. Tons of fun!

This is a GREAT class for those who want to multiclass without having to deal with all the negatives of trying to multiclass the traditional DnD way. Vagabonds are great for a little of everything. You can build a tank, a dps, a spellcaster..... there is a mechanic for it. This class stays 100% true to the adage **"a jack of all trades is a master of none, but oftentimes better than a master of one"**

Well thought out and well rounded and this is the key: WITHOUT being OP. If you want a truly flexible class that can fill whatever niche your party needs this is your class. Love it and I already have some builds in mind for it.

Highly Recommend. I had so much fun creating my character with this class and playing through a few sessions. It is so flexible, and there are so many options for you to realize that PC you have in your head perfectly. I really liked the "knack" bonuses, and the "Borrowed Knowledge" options. You can really get the unique blend of skills and mechanics as you build up through the class progressions. So much fun.

Looking forward to seeing what the other classes they've created can do. Definitely getting the full bundle.

This is an incredible class option. It provides the capability of multiclassing without having to split levels between classes. With so many option, I can see playing this many different ways and enjoying them all. Extremely well done. I'd HIGHLY recommend this class and the entire bundle.

I would add more about all the different ways to play this class, but the list would be too long. Want to be a pirate? It's in there. Want to be a ranger/rogue without multiclassing? Yep - better version of that in in here too. Like a couple of cool things in other classes? Borrow knowledge from them as choices every few levels. This is the Swiss army knife of classes. For all you folks out there like me who multiclass to build what you want because it doesn't exist, you absolutely need to check this one out.

Rules Edition(s)
Original electronic
Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.
Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
