Champions of Krynn

The cover of Champions of Krynn, Chapter 1: The Mystery of the Lost Patrol

Evil never rests and neither should the forces of good. It has been one year since the end of the War of the Lance. And while the forces of the Whitestone Council are still battling the remnants of the Dragon Highlord armies, a new force arises. In the area around Throtl, rumors spread of a forgotten book that can unlock a long forgotten secret. With limited forces in the area, the Whitestone Council must look to others to help unlock the mystery and prevent an ancient legend from being unleashed on Krynn.

  • A four-part adventure that takes the players through 1st level, with up to 7 encounters.
  • Updated maps of the different locations around Throtl and Solamnia, as well as other locales the adventure takes you.
  • New tables to generate NPC's, and rumors that link to subsequent chapters being released soon.
  • A new player ancestry and new cantrips & 1st level spells

Samples of encounters players will face in the adventure.

Love it. Have used it already in preparation of SotDQ. One of my players was under the impression Kender were, in general, angry halflings because of their ability to taunt. Thankfully I had this to show him otherwise and in a educative way rather than me waxing long in my explanation, I was able to use the clear description inside which was very useful- he now likes the concept of kender and how they fit into the world. I also plan to use the Draconians in here too. Looking forward to the PoD version as well as the rest of the CoK series and 5e Conversions of the original models.

Question - does the history of Krynn section cover up to and including the Dark Disciple series? Everything I ever find online only describes up to the end of the War of Souls books and what I'd really like is an idea of what Krynn is like at the end of the timeline, circa 430 AC.

Hi there, our timeline goes a little bit past that, covering the Wizard's Conclave novel. However, you can go to the Dragonlance Wiki (which we manage), and search by year for the bigger things happening. I would suggest starting after 421 AC and looking at each year from there on the site. The last year covered is 430 AC.

I originally planned to wait for PoD, but I simply got too antsy and jumped on the PDF. No regrets at all! This book is a fantastic utility for all things Dragonlance, and the adventure included seems extremely promising. One of the greatest benefits is the extended lore sections, which really help to be able to provide excellent snapshots of the world to players that may not be as experienced with the world of Krynn. The alternative stat blocks for Draconians are also fantastic, and immediately lead me to thinking this wis a fantastic way to add even more diversity to combat encounters by mixing in multiple possible stat blocks. Looking forward to purchasing again when PoD is reached!

How does this book interact with the new 5e Dragonlance book? Does it add to the info presented or supersede it? Thank you.

A bit of both. The primary difference is that the WotC DL book is primarily a game book, which has some additional lore and backgrounds. It mostly only touches on the War of the Lance, timeline wise.

TPOE conversely is a setting focused book, as well as a number of items, classes, and player/DM options. It covers every age of Krynn, and features vastly more in depth lore and setting information than you will find in the WotC product. You also get an adventure module tacked on!

IMHO the two work best in tandem with eachother, and the overlap they have (Draconian stat blocks are divergent, for instance) can be used for variety in game, or simply to choose what the DM likes best. Most information does not so much supersede, as much as enrich the setting.

In short, SotDQ is great if you want to run a pre-gen in Krynn, and need just enough information for the typical campaign. If there is a story YOU want to tell in Krynn, but you need ideas for rules, options, and lore then TPOE...See more

Thanks, Gary. As Tristan said, any differences are really just options for the players and DMs. Hope it adds to your play experience.

Really love the book, most of all that it keeps the magic system in tact, with the moon lore correct.

Unless I misheard i thought the podcast said there was "lots" of Gnomish inventions in this book, but I don't see any...?

Great book, I'm about to start a Dragon's of Autumn 5e campaign and made my own draconians, inspired by your versions. The Fizban ones are just too weak for a 4th level Autumn campaign.

The Nexus one, Dragonlance Canticle. I swear it said there was gnomish inventions in it, but i haven't listened again to check haha.. Either way i recommend the book and have referenced this countless times prepping for Dragons of Autumn... and as someone who played the SSI Krynn series as a kid many many times I am really looking forward to running the adventure one day. I was already toying with the idea of making my own and now you've done it for me.

Hello,
But now you've got me! With the title Champions of Krynn, that's no coincidence, is it? I must have played the PC game dozens of times on the C64, as did the two successors. But the first part of CoK was simply awesome - for me at the time. Are you building on this story, this adventure? Is it possibly a conversion from PC to tabletop roleplaying?
And one more question: is there a PoD coming?
Thank you Uland

Hi there, yes we will have the second part of Champions of Krynn, Chapter 2: Descent Into the Crypts, out in January/February timeframe! Part 3, The Tower of Gargath, will be out by the summer. The adventure is indeed inspired by the old Gold Box games, but not an exact adaptation.

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
