Druid: Circle of the Cryptid

Druids of the Circle of the Cryptid are most drawn to those aspects of nature that are hidden and largely unknown. In particular, they seek out lore on the character, habits, and abilities of strange beasts whose existence is attested only by hearsay. Most people view druids of this circle as eccentric, if not outright delusional, but their alternative perspective on the natural world allows them to manifest their power in surprising ways!

Hi there! I want to tell you that I absolutely adore this subclass and wanted to give my thanks for making it and also some feedback.

Firstly, I love the way you have made it so that all of a druid's wild shapes can feel unique and interesting. I love the ability to add extra features to a normal beast to give them neat abilities. Becoming an antlered spider-climbing bear would be terrifying and I love it.

Secondly, I love the amount of creatures you can become as a monstrosity, I've always wanted to be a druid who could wild shape into monstrosities, because there are so many good ones that are suitable for it, and your rules give a good variety of interesting ones. However, it is a bit disappointing that we can't turn into a yeti, which is literally the only CR 3 Monstrosity that is actually a real life cryptid.

Lastly, I am sad to say that most of the official fey forms available in the PHB do not qualify for your ability. I believe only Boggles and Fragments (from Tasha's)...See more

You make a good point about the yeti. Cutting off Wild Shape at Intelligence 7 was an intentional design decision, though. D&D 5E seems to draw a line between Int 7 and Int 8, with all ordinary beasts having Int 7 or lower (apes and dolphins have Int 6) and Int 8 and above representing humanoid-level sentience. Yetis, with Int 8, are just a little too cognitively advanced to be Wild Shape forms. If yeti were allowed, so would tlincallis and merrows.

Also, the yeth hound (Int 5) is another eligible fey shape, and adventure modules and third-party supplements may offer more.

Thank you for the feedback and the compliment!

I should have said "Cutting off Weird Shape," the Circle of the Cryptid feature. Wild Shape is still unlimited by Intelligence. Giant owls and giant eagles remain on the table.

These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
