The Essentials: Sidekicks Expanded

With the D&D Essentials Kit, WOTC introduced rules for sidekick characters for use in games with less than 4 players, one-on-one games in particular. These rules have streamlined gameplay between DMs and single players significantly, and introduced three basic sidekick characters: the Expert, the Warrior, and the Spellcaster.

The Essentials: Sidekicks Expanded, does just what you'd expect, it expands on the solid base that WOTC has built with its sidekick rules, adding 9 new sidekicks for use in your games. These sidekicks are:

The Assassin, the Conjurer, the Crusader, the Duelist, the Evoker, the Gladiator, the Hunter, the Necromancer, and the Oathbreaker. Each one based on a 5th edition character class, and each with their own unique and streamlined class features for players to enjoy.

And, if staring at stat-blocks during gameplay isn't your thing, feel free to check out The Essentials: Sidekick Sheets so your sidekicks don't feel out of place on the table.

Thank you for your support & happy gaming.

Note on spells: The only spells included in this pdf are those that are absent from the Essentials Kit rulebook.

Update: Lots of new content on the way. Not to mention lots of error corrections. Should be up sometime within the next few days. Thank you for all your support.

Clarification: Noticed in a few spots that I wrote an ability can be used x times equal to y modifier, but failed to include per long rest in the text. In those instances, those abilities can be used that many times per long rest. Definitely something that I’ve already corrected in the document for the next update, but it’s important enough to mention for clarities sake.

Not that it doesn't have a good amount of content but I'm Working on a fairly decent sized update for this title to add level progression beyond 6th level and some unique (named) sidekicks. Stay tuned.

Put out an update to fix a couple of small errors in two of the progression tables. If anyone notices anything else out of place or needs any clarification, just join the discussion and let me know.

Rules Edition(s)
Original electronic
Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.
Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
