Assault from the Astral

After crash-landing onto the Material Plane, a strange, otherworldly ship brings with it an unexpected wave of piracy, hideous creatures from the bottom of the Trackless Sea, and a notorious foe who has been awakened from the deep, intent on destroying the world as you know it.

The adventurers must set sail along the Sword Coast, fending off the pirate attacks while putting together the fractured puzzle that will reveal the true villain.

A Dungeons & Dragons 5th Edition Campaign for characters from 1st - 12th level.

Thinking of getting this and run it after Storm King's Thunder. How hard would it be to adjust it for a party that would start this at level 11 or so?

Not too hard. You’ll need to select some more appropriate monsters, but the actual plot shouldn’t need to change at all!

This looks wonderful but there's no way I can print it. Is there a printer friendly version available?

Hi John,

This product is not intended for home printing. I'm working on an optimised pdf for printing at a professional printer!

Thanks,
Josh

Can you please elaborate on this? I have been having problems getting materials I purchased from the DM Guild professionally printed. The store refuses to print them because they are copyrighted and ask to see a letter from the IP holder allowing the print. I'd love to buy this adventure, but if I can't print it at home and I can't print it at a store then I'm not gonna bother - I'm not gonna run a 200+ pages adventure off of a computer screen.

I’m working on files that will make it easier for a commercial printer to print, rather than the basic pdf available now.

OneBookShelf (who run DMsGuild) will not allow me to offer a Print on Demand option, so this is my best shot at helping people get it printed.

I am more than happy to write you a letter of permission. Shoot me an email at jvcparry@hotmail.com

300-450 lbs. Their carapace accounts for around a third of that weight. Their size is Medium

Hi Parry,

First off I am a huge fan of your content, and this will be my first time running one of your campaigns. I've previously tried DMing Out of the Abyss, and did a relatively poor job given my party's playstyle and my inexperience DMing at the time.

We have a unique situation with our group where we will have approximately four dedicated members for a weekly 3-4hr. session, with two other players occasionally rotating in and out. Beyond that, some other players will want to DM on occasion, which I am hoping will provide me a good opportunity to see their DM styles and hopefully improve my own. To try and make sure everyone is happy, I've thought about running Call From the Deep, and in those instances where others want to DM we can simply say that we've stopped off at some strange island (however you'd like to phrase it) for a short rest. Both as an opportunity to meet new PCs (myself if others are DMing for the session, and potentially one of the non-dedicated players).

Hi Gideon,

Thanks for your support! The more practice you get DMing, the better you’ll become! I’d also suggest reading Chris Perkins’s ‘The DM Experience’ and the YouTube videos by Matt Colville and Matthew Mercer!

Your plan sounds perfect to me! When the party stop off on various islands your friends can take a turn DMing. I’d definitely suggest Shore of Dreams as it’s already set on an island! Similarly, most of the Serpent Isle material should be usable, as well as Sanguine Sacrament.

The dino adventures are actually by Phil of PB Publishing (we work together on a lot of stuff, but not on those specific adventures), but they would also be a good fit! Warriors of Sehanine is set in the woods near Baldur’s Gate, so could definitely be used if you’re in that area!

Best of luck running the campaign! Feel free to reach out to me on Facebook or twitter if you need any more advice! You’ll find my as JVCParry in both places.

Are there any plans on releasing a map pack for use with VTT setup at home or are the included maps formatted for easy printing?

Man! this adventure looks soooo good! But my whole group is level 11!!! I've always wondered why adventure authors don't make the same adventure for different levels? The hardest part is the story right? Seems like it wouldn't be too hard to take the same story and make a version of it that's for levels 10-15 or something?

My aim with this product was to make a level 1-12 campaign! You could always run the characters through a streamlined version of the first few chapters?

Great inspiring campaign! Is the Sword Coast map intended to be player-safe? After a first read-through it seems to have some pretty big spoiler-locations on there, or am i misunderstanding?

I noticed there is no description in the book for the Survival Mantles. Occasionally a comment in the "treasure" paragraph will mention something about "surviving underwater," but without an entry in the Magic Item Index, we really have no idea what the full abilities of the Survival Mantles are.

Any time after 1490 DR should be fine, date doesn’t matter much, though perhaps start on early summer so the ice around the North has begun to melt.

hello here, i am planning doing a new game whit the ghost of saltmarsh setting and i find it lacking content to make it a full campaign and after looking at some review of this product i was wondering if we can easily use call from the deep in the setting of saltmarch.

if any owner of the book can tell me, it will be appreciated.

Question regarding ship weaponry. Two items in your roll table include a Ram and Side-shears. The DMG has info on a Ram, but it seems to be more of a battering ram siege weapon than a ships ram. And there is no info on the side-shears. Did you have guidelines for these items that didn't make it into the book? Any chance to get that info? Thanks!

Not too hard! The second chapter assumes the characters are around that level. I’d just suggest adding a few more creatures to the Encounters in the first chapter is all!

There’s reference to Ships that can navigate the Astral Plane, and to the Abolethic Sovereignty!

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.
Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
