Adaptable NPCs

Dungeon Masters, immerse players in your world by bringing your non-player characters to life!

Contained within this supplement are 70 NPCs with unique statblocks (created by the team behind the best-selling Grimlore's Grimoire), each NPC contains custom art, lore, and a stat block balanced for the 5e Challenge Rating system.

Additionally, 8 short adventures have been included. These adventures have been created for Dungeon Masters to introduce their players to some of the Adaptable NPCs with minimal preparation. Each adventure has high-resolution printable battle maps created by Justin Andrew Mason (DM & Player versions are included), an adventure background, a recommend party level, and room descriptions with encounters (both combat and roleplaying) utilizing NPCs from this supplement and the 5e monster manual. Note: The maps have been included as an additional download in a seperate .zip file.

"If you're a DM, you need to have this in your bag of tricks. Not only are the NPCs solidly presented mechanically, they're presented with ideas on how to use them in your ongoing campaign. The mini-dungeons at the end even give you instantly-usable scenarios. So when your table throws you a curveball, you can still present them with a fully-realized encounter or series of encounters which will be satisfying." - R.P. Davis

"Grimlore’s done it AGAIN! 70 NPCs with absolutely STUNNING art, from CRs ⅛ to 15, perfect for dropping into any story, game, or campaign to flesh out a party or use for quest giving. This is also packed with 8 adventures, so well worth adding to your collection. I can’t wait until this is a Fantasy Grounds module as well, I’ll have both, please! Highly recommend."Rob Twohy (rob2e)

"Adaptable NPCs is a fantastic resource to help DMs in a pinch. Don't be surprised if some of these NPCs become the foundations for the most memorable characters in your Dungeons & Dragons campaign!" - Christian Hoffer (

"Adaptable NPCs is a true hidden gem. From Dukes, Dragoons and Drunkards, to Scholars, Scoundrels and Seers, this supplement provides a much needed expansion for Dungeon Masters looking to pull out quick NPCs on the fly. Buy it and bring it to your table. You won't regret it." - Vall does DnD

Hi Shane,
I just redownload the file without issue. I would maybe try the download again, and reach out to DMs Guild customer support if the issue persists.

I refreshed the page and tried DLing it from the Library page and it 'seemed' to work. Not sure if you want to look into this.
Thumbs Up!

Glad it worked for you. Seems to be an issue on the DMs Guild side.

Any plan to turn this into a hardcover print on demand? Great content and certainly enough of it for a printed format I think :)

Hi Chuck,
Thank you so much for your kind words! I would love for this to be a PoD, but ultimately that decision is made by the WotC / OBS. If they approached me, certainly I would like to make it happen, as I designed this supplement to be printed should the option arise.

This is excellent. The artwork and the characters really work well together. Is there any way that we can get tokens for addition to our VTTs? It's not possible to create tokens for all of the images.

Hi James,

Thank you for your high praise! For tokens, I will be converting this into Fantasy Grounds within the next week. As part of that process, I will be making pog tokens for each NPC, so I will add them to the map download zip folder when they are done.

Original electronic
Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.
Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
