Its a well written adventure. i would say that i think the creator was confused about Imps and mistook their personalities with Quasits. also i did like the fact that Blinsky was mentioned in the mod but it felt like a cliche easter egg and i dont get the motive for it being here. still a fun read through. cant wait to run this at PAX South. gonna set up some spooky sounds for the final fight.

Also a enduring Spellbook is mentioned but not on the list of unlockables is it assumed that the characters cant ask the Casslanters to have one made fore them or where they got it? why have it be found but not unlock it? am i missing something?

Back in my younger days playing an adventure over the Christmas break was a regular tradition for my gaming group. I hadn't done it in years until I happened upon Winter's Splendor in Dragon+

My group and I really enjoyed the adventure. It was nice to do something that was a bit heavier in role-playing and lighter in terms of actual combat.

I ran three 1st level PCs through the adventure and they found the combats they ended up in a reasonable challenge but I can see how if you were running a larger group or level 3 or 4 PCs through the adventure you would want to adjust the encounters accordingly.

I'm really hoping to see more 'thinking' adventures in the near future.

Thanks for giving us a great fun session!

Just thought to add this after my initial comment. These are 2 of the 3 PC models we used for the game. Just thought I'd share :)

Last follow up :) I took some (poorly lit) pictures of two of my baddies for the adventure.

With regard to inner logic, this is probably the worst adventure I have ever read. We couldn't see any reason our character should get into the position dictated in the transition from episode 1 to episode 2, and there simply was not sufficient reason to motivate the insane risk the characters would have to face with the transition from episode 2 to episode 3 (Even looking away from that none in our group were in a position to get the only little piece of information that might work as motivation). That being said, my first time playing wife liked the play trough of the first 2 episodes, so the module isn't all bad at least. I am just surprised to not see anyone else seeming to be bothered by these in my eyes glaring short commings. (I am also a bit sad that there are hardly any attention given at all to what set the events in this adventure in motion. A question I think would be quite obvious for curious characters to try to pursue, even if it might be outside the scope of the immediate threat)

Enjoyed playing this with my online roll20 group. Thanks for the module, Ashley!
Just for fun, I made a tiny map for the final battle in City of the Dead.
Link is here, if other DMs want to use it:

As another thing that I just noticed when looking for the Pseudodragon stats for the new familiar, well, this kind of creates a major advantage since the MM sidebar for Pseudodragons as familiars kind of creates a mess with magic resistance and the far larger telepathy range...

Played through it and had a lot of fun despite having a character in the party that decided to try disrupting parts of the flow...teifling bards not liking the fact that there's an aasimar bard, go figure.

But this does lead to an immediate question, does the Enduring Spellbook work for as a Ritual Book as well for those with the Ritual Caster feat?

Ran this for my group for christmas, they had a great time plenty of room for roleplay and the puzzle was challenging but did not slow them down thanks for making this.

I greatly recommend this to anyone wanting to get into the Midwinter spirit. Played this with my group tonight, taking them on a dreamscape adventure out of Barovia for a night, and it was a blast! They enjoyed the market a lot, our Aasimar Princess got to meet another Aasimar and talk to them about it, and the murder attempt mystery was appreciated. Chernok pulling a Chip N' Dale christmas disguise was laughed at for a solid minute. I got a little confused about the sigil summoning (I got 1 night to prep this on the fly), but it worked out. My group of 3 players were level 5 so it was really easy (even buffing the last encounter and HP), but that was rather a plus coming from my usually deadly Barovian combat.

Thanks for sharing your experience! Your comment about Chernok made ME laugh haha! I'm so pleased you and your group had a great time.

Is there a printer friendly version?
Customer avatar
Jonathan S December 22, 2018 8:03 pm UTC
Not that I can find. And attempting to strip the background fails as various attempts with various software seems to indicate that the PDF does not have the printer-unfriendliness as a background element. It's feeling like WotC is becoming actively user-hostile.

Is the award for helping Aria supposed to be usable by other players?

That is to say, if a character who was given it goes into another module with different characters, can those characters make use of it?

Hey Jeremy! I will double check on this with the AL team.

I want to ask about the song reward. Can it be distribute free or the players need TCP to get the song?
Customer avatar
Ashley W December 18, 2018 10:36 pm UTC
Hey Sylvester! There was another comment about the song so I am clarifying with the AL team. Thanks!

Hi, I am DMing LMoP and hooking into W:DH for my group. There has been a request for an interstitial one-shot where I am a player and one of my players DMs. This seems perfect, but not if it spoils anything in W:DH for the temporary DM. What say you, Wizards?
Customer avatar
Ashley W December 10, 2018 7:12 am UTC
Hello! This module has a few spoilers about one of the main villains in W:DH (the Cassalanters). While the module itself is not a spoiler, some additional lore is provided in the module for context. You could probably mitigate that by omitting the backstory sidebar in chapter 2, or by running your W:DH with one of the other villain options instead. :) Hope that helps!

CHRISTOPHER B December 07, 2018 10:43 pm UTC
Just looked over my groups copy, and why is the Villa different than what is in the book?
Customer avatar
Ashley W December 07, 2018 11:11 pm UTC
Hey Christopher! The general details about the Villa were taken directly from Dragon Heist; however, we didn't want to reprint every detail about the Villa since there is quite a lot to it, and it would have made the adventure too long to play. So it's a condensed version. :) Hope that clarifies!

Sorry, I was confusing the villa in chapter 3 and this one. That's where my issue was. It was all me! Not you! I swear!

So , it looks fun but why the rewards of this adventure, didn´t come in the form of cards like the other AL products¿?

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.
Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
