A tip: It would be nice to have the headings for the big Random Encounters table repeated at the top of the section of the table that is on page 5. When you print this out, pages 4 and 5 aren't facing each other, so in order to see which column is which, you have to flip back and forth.

Also: option 3 for the Newsprint Seller encounter ("The Sea Maidens Faire has a special discount deal tonight ...") could do with some fleshing out. I was caught out by this one when I randomly rolled it during a recent session. It talks about discounted entry to the faire and refers you to chapter 7 in Dragon Heist for details. Well, judging by what little the module says about the faire, it would appear they just do street parades. There's no ongoing carnival (although I reckon there should be) with no prices listed for entry or anything like that. Needless to say, I had to do some quick improvisation when the players took this hook ...

City watch encounter: "veteran officer" and veteran (an NPC in the MM) is not bolded. The book says most city watch are veterans (as in the NPC as it is bolded). So there are some Guards (which the lower ranks of the city guard is made up of) and a veteran (as in the NPC)?

Crashed Carriage - Hobgoblin Sergeant is bolded. What is that?

This is an excellent resource for any party spending time in Waterdeep specifically or any large city really. The wealth of detail made it easy to use portions of this along with information from the Dragon Heist hardcover to fashion a (so far) very fun and compelling narrative centered around the City of the Dead to close out October.

To the authors... One thing I'm curious about is the mystery surrounding Caryn Jung Kiel. I've tried to come up with a solution to what I see as a puzzle but have been fruitless so far and don't want to spend any more time if it is indeed just a red herring.

This product is amazing! Thank you so much! My players are in chapter 3 and I've been able to bring the city to life as they've been exploring. They failed their checks to get into the villa and they decided to explore the town. This has been invaluable!

Hi Donald. That's odd! I've checked with the team and it's working fine on our devices when imported to iBooks/Books. If you can provide more information we might be able to investigate further. If you've added custom bookmarks or anything to the PDF via Adobe and then tried to open in Books, there's a slim chance that something in your bookmark or markup (comment, highlight, etc) is causing the trouble. Our suggestion is that you download a new copy of Encounters, reboot your system (to clear out any post-install/post-update gunk) and try again.

No, random encounters are provided per ward, with location encounters for almost every location mentioned in chapter 9 of Dragon Heist. This is not a city guide though - it's a book of encounters.

So, I am a bit confused. How does this product run as a "Hardcover". You just run it front to back? I mean, it is a series of "random encounters".

In AL play, it incorporates into Dragon Heist. You can use the encounters here to spice up your group's journeys through the city, and still track advancement as normal.

So, there is a public execution... When in the Module that is supposed to be a "sourcebook" for waterdeep it claims that the people of waterdeep do not partake in such barbaric activities. I get that the Module, fleshes out almost none of the "must see" locations that they talk about, but making up nonsense about the city, doesn't help people trying to make the world better for their players.

Hi Christopher. As per the Dragon Heist sourcebook, executions take place behind the walls of Castle Waterdeep, which is where this one is specified to occur. The execution is not public: the encounter specifies that only a few family and guards are in attendance.

The characters are just passing by, and see an execution, that is behind the walls, gotcha. Look I'm only salty because the module came with practically none of the city, stores, services businesses fleshed out, and thought this would help fleshing out the city more, not so much. Sorry if you worked hard on it, but you didn't even have the updated map for Waterdeep in the product you are selling, as a companion to the Heist. (copyright issues or drama with Wizards who knows who cares obviously if you bought this you probably have the other map anyway) I think the Module itself is fantastic, but as a sourcebook or a toolbox for DM's its lacking content.

I will say i like that you actually put Aurora's Whole realm Catalog in the city, doesn't seem to be mentioned in the module even though its such a mundane, and yet cool idea for such a fantastic city.

If you reread the start of that section, you'll see that location encounters are specified to be used when the group visits a location OR passes by. In this case, it's for when your group actually visits the Castle. I'm sorry that the supplement didn't meet all your needs, but I think your gripe in that particular case is a little unfounded. Glad you liked Aurora's though - there are one or two other locations that aren't mentioned in the DH book that we had fun adding.

FG forums have a place where you can share conversions of licensed or paid materials if the person using it can furnish proof that they own the original. So long as the original authors don't take issue with that channel, I will probably post my conversion there. I'll be starting that in the next week or so as my W:DH campaign starts first week of October. I'll post here when the conversion is done.

There is no place in the FG forums that allow sharing of modules if you have proof that you purchased the pdf version.

My experience with getting a module listed once you do a conversion is to send it to the author(s) and offer it. Some will accept it, others will not. They need to list it with the PDF.

Well, there WAS.

http://www.fantasygrounds.com/forums/showthread.php?20244-Private-sharing-of-PFS-scenario-data-available-modules

But I was mistaken that it was a generic thread for any ruleset. It was Pathfinder specific. However, now that the official licensed paizo material is available on the FG store, that forum has since been updated to indicate that paizo will no longer turn a blind eye to GM's sharing conversions.

Regardless of that, this was never permissible for WotC licensed material, apparently. And this isn't WotC licensed material anyway. AFAICT, it's fair use for me to convert for myself and I guess that's where it needs to stay. Regardless, seems dumb to let the work of converting this to FG go to waste. I'll probably contact the authors when I've done so in case they are interested at all in using it. They might want to allow folks who purchased the pdf to request a copy of my work. If not, ndb. There's nothing stopping me from using it personally so far...See more

I finished my conversion to fantasy grounds for personal use. I'm glad to provide it to you if you want to make it available as an add-on to purchasers. I don't want anything other than credit for the conversion in return. I don't see a system for sending private messages here on the DMsG, but if you're interested in using my work, please let me know here, along with how to provide you with a copy of the module.

I usually track them down on Facebook and use messages there. I have several conversions up for others here that I had done for personal use since I also develop for the FG store. Sometimes they are interested, sometimes they are not.

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.
Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
