Will this be available like other WotC books in stores in the future or is the only way to get it ( physical copy ) through here as PoD. ?

Why no standard color in hardcover ?

I'm almost positive that a standard color hardcover was available when this title was first launched. If avoidable, I never buy premium and I put a copy in my cart while I continued to browse, but it's no longer there. Why was it removed?

Regardless, not having that option is hot garbage.

I purchased the hardcover standard color when they first released the P.O.D. I still haven’t gotten it in yet. I hope that it is still coming

From a reviewer on YouTube, this book contains a depiction of someone tied to an upside-down cross. Christianity is not in the Forgotten Realms cosmology. Adding symbolism from real-world religions breaks the immersion and could cause issues at the game table.

Crosses and crucifixion existed long before Jesus, and before they had any religious affiliation. That's like getting upset that a candle, or a lamb is used because they're religious symbols.... the only one making it religious is you.

You misunderstand. I'm referring to the upside-down cross which is a symbol that originated from the story of the Apostle Peter and has since been used as a real-world religious reference. For it to be included in a book about the Nine Hells, showing a devil putting people on an upside-down cross, alludes to the Forgotten Realms containing Christian and anti-Christian teachings, which can be problematic.

No, you seem to misunderstand. That is still a form of crucifixion. Peter is just one person. It's impossible to be precise but certainly tens of thousands, probably hundreds of thousands, and conceivably even more people than that have been crucified. 6,000 people were crucified on a single day in 71 BCE, in the aftermath of Spartacus' rebellion. Its a very famous torture device. Crosses are still used today in BDSM, even upside down ones. That doesn't mean it has anything to do with Christianity. And furthermore, this is a book for DMs. If you don't like something in it, you don't have to include it.

You're still not getting it. I mentioned the origins of the upside-down cross and its real-world, religious significance as being problematic in an RPG book where it doesn't belong in the cosmology (particularly for a company who places heavy emphasis on avoiding cultural appropriation and sensitivities). You keep referencing the history of crucifixion which is not what we're talking about. My comment was intended to let WOTC know about something that could be a concern for their product. To use your own phrasing: If you don't like my comment (or don't understand it), you don't have to comment back.

Jo L, I agree with you and think you are correct. This is a matter of consistent, non-hypocritical application of the policies of WOTC. If you're going to have a policy, apply it consistently. Otherwise, get rid of it.

How exactly does it break immersion? How are you so sure that tying someone to an upside down cross doesn't have in-universe symbolism? Or what if it is just a torture method? A cross does not need to be tied to christianity. The upside down cross in the book is not even being used as a symbol. I'd agree with you if it was on an insignia or a coat of arms; but I think it is ridiculous to immediately assume it is christian symbolism. If something as minor and unimportant as that breaks immersion, then maybe you shouldn't be playing in a campaign set in the Nine Hells. You know, the place that you could argue has even more christian symbology following your logic? You are playing a fantasy ttrpg made by people from the real world, who obviously draw inspiration from their culture, religion, myths and legends. Are you going to complain next about elves being a thing because they are inspired by Tolkien and he was heavily inspired by Christianity?

Could you please create a bundle for PDF + POD (without roll20) as well? Otherwise "complete your bundle" won't work (and the promise of this coming was the only reason why I bought the PDF early).

Excellent question!
The primary difference between Standard Color and Premium Color books is the process with which the ink is printed.
Standard Color – Printed with an inkjet printer on 70 lb/104 gsm white paper
Premium Color – Printed with Digital Color Print Engine Technology on 70 lb/104 gsm white paper

The paper weight is the same, but the premium has richer colors.

There is a side-by-side comparison here: https://help.drivethrurpg.com/hc/en-us/articles/12723267779863-What-is-the-difference-between-B-W-Premium-Color-and-Standard-Color

It looks like the "complete your bundle" option is only available for the two dedicated bundles "pdf+roll20" and "pdf+roll20+pod". I'm really hoping they'll add a "pdf+pod" bundle _as an actual bundle_ so that we can get the discount as promised.

I was under the impression that we would get a discount for the PoD if we already had the PDF, as per previous communication:
PDF purchasers will be able to use our "Complete Your Bundle" feature to get a PoD version of Chains of Asmodeus at a discount.
I do indeed see a "discount" for the bundle, but it makes zero sense. I can complete my bundle with a standard hardcover for $69.98, or I can just buy the standard hardcover for $59.99. Maybe something went wrong in the calculation, but as it stands I'm a bit disapointed.

Yeah I bought the PDF after they said we’d be able to get the discounted print on demand version, but I’m only seeing a discount on the bundles which I believe is the standard discount for the bundle. So really those should be showing up as £30 less because of the already purchased PDF

This is still disappointing... if i had waited to buy this, I could have got the pdf and soft cover standard "bundle" just now for apparently £35.68.
Where as I have already paid for the pdf for £24.70 when it came out. If I had waited, I could have got this bundle instead and so effectively got the book for £10.98.

Now though, I now have the options of paying
£27.76 for the book.
£35.68 for the book AND the pdf (which I don't need, as I already have the pdf).
£59.49 for the Hardcover, Premium Color Book
£67 for the Hardcover, Premium Color Book and PDF (which I don't need).
Or i can take advantage of the pre-pruchased offer: £43.62 for the Hardcover, Premium Color Book.

What this seems to be telling me is that for value for money - I shouldn't believe offers/rumours of discounts or purchase things ealier.
I am not really after the hardcover premium book (well to be fair I am not looking to spend 43.62 for it!).

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
