The Ooze that Ate the Moon

The moon is turning green. A colossal tide of green slime has begun to engulf it, threatening to dissolve it entirely.

As it does so, a tide of demonic madness begins to engulf the lands below. As the green shadow flows across the night sky, the world turns mad.

The source?  An insane cult of plasmoids dedicated to Juiblex, the demon lord of oozes and slimes.

Soon the moon may be gone, the first part of a mad plan to dissolve the multiverse into the primordial slime of the Abyss.

If only some heroes could appear before it’s too late...

The Ooze That Ate The Moon is 5th-edition Dungeons & Dragons adventure based on the Spelljammer campaign setting. It is an investigative high-orbit pulp thriller paired with the wacky zaniness of Spelljammer, and every playthrough is likely to be different.

It is designed for four 9th or 10th level characters and to be run in 3 to 6 three-hour sessions, or 2 to 3 longer sessions

It can be run as multi-session one shot or as part of an ongoing campaign. It fits perfectly after the events of Light of Xaryxis, but is written so as to be easily incorporated into any non-Spelljammer campaign. It requires the 5th Edition Spelljammer boxed set to run.

Gameplay is based around investigation and roleplaying, with a good smattering of combat in the later acts.

The climax of the adventure presents the players with a problem that has no clear solution. They’ll have to use all their wits and resources to overcome it, but can they do so in time?

The Ooze that Ate the Moon features:

  • A flying saucer piloted by plasmoid cultists of Juiblex. With laser guns.

  • An entire city affected by the Madness of Juiblex.

  • A reclusive astronomer, desperate to hide the fact she’s secretly a werewolf.

  • An erratic lunar dragon.

  • A druid who retains his beard while in animal form.

  • A mad giff with a belly full of gunpowder.

  • A sentient piece of cheese in control of a sphere of annihilation.

  • A chance of being attacked by a demonic curry.

  • A ship full of space-clowns harvesting slime to bake into acid-filled pies (with the possibility to be turned into a space clown!)

  • A treacherous glabrezu confined to a giant beanbag.

  • Demon ichor infusions (to be applied surgically, accidentally or violently)

  • And of course the main villain, ‘Juiblex Junior’, a plasmoid boss warlock thrall of Juiblex, with an unlikely path to redemption…

Also included are:

  • Over 40 pieces of original Spelljammer-themed art

  • Specific notes for incorporation into Dungeon of the Mad Mage

  • Encounters and chapters formatted for easy reference during play

  • Breakdowns of possible player/NPC actions and their outcomes

  • Potential complications and their resolutions for each chapter

  • Scripted dialogue options for all major NPC encounters

  • Just a bit of humor (because reading adventures can be so dry sometimes)

Can your players save the moon?

Love it so far but is there an ungridded map? or what is the grid size? I'm having trouble properly lining it up on a VTT.

Thank you Aaron, I'm glad you're loving it!
The grid size on the map is meant to be one square = 5 ft., but I'm not sure if that answers your question- I have no experience in converting maps to VTT. Either way, I have just added a new gridless, unannotated version of the map to the files available for download. Let me know if that helps, or if there's anything else you need!

Oh great, thank you.

Unfortunately your map won't work correctly on VTT's because the two saucer sections don't line up on a single grid. Looks like a different grid was applied to each section and so it's slightly off. You'd have to edit it so a single grid lines up as a whole.

But a griddles option works to bypass that, so that works. :)

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
