The Four Aces Curiosity Shop

LibraryIntroducing the Four Aces Curiosity Shop, the newest addition to the Smiling Orc Campaign Drop-in Locations Series. This supplement offers a detailed three-story shop filled with magic and mystery, perfect for Dungeon Masters looking to enhance their 5th Edition campaigns. The supplement includes full-color maps of the shop's scroll and spellbook library, apothecary shop, magic armory, and artificer's curio shop.

The supplement also provides in-depth descriptions of the powerful owners, apprentices, and guards of the shop, adding depth and dimension to the location. In total, there are 11 NPCs to encounter and interact with. Additionally, the supplement includes lists of magic items to stock the shop, making it easy for DMs to create exciting encounters. You will also be introduced to a new and powerful magical item - Aajon's Infusion Chamber!

At the Four Aces Curiosity Shop, players will encounter a grand stone building with an imposing façade and a rustic charm. The building features a circular staircase leading up to the entry door, a ground-level patio with a tranquil fountain, and a balcony with an outside forge. The third floor houses the living quarters of the shop's four owners, while the basement level contains a storeroom filled with magical trinkets and quarters for the guards and apprentices.

One of the key features of this supplement is its flexibility. While the supplement may make references to generic geographic locations, the locations are designed with enough flexibility to be easily dropped into any existing campaign world. DMs are encouraged to create their own iterations and adjust the names of locations, non-player characters, and other points of interest as needed.

At the Smiling Orc, we believe in sparking the imagination of DMs and players alike. Our modules and supplements offer a good level of description and detail, but we leave room for creativity and interpretation.

The Curiosity Shop

As you approach the Four Aces Curiosity Shop, your eyes are drawn to the imposing stone structure rising before you. The building stands at one and a half stories tall, with a large full basement nestled beneath it. The first floor of the building is raised off the ground, giving the basement level a partially above-ground appearance. Despite this, it is not a walk-out basement, and instead, the windows on this level are small and discreet, offering only glimpses of what lies within.

At the top of a circular staircase leading up from a ground-level patio, you'll find a large entry door that beckons you to step inside. The patio, made of gray cobblestone, is adorned with a tranquil fountain that soothes the soul with its gentle burble. As you approach the entrance, you notice a second staircase leading up to a balcony where an outside forge glimmers in the light.

The building itself is a masterful work of craftsmanship, with an oak beam frame that lends a rustic charm to the sturdy stone structure. The roof is made of slate, adding to the shop's weathered appearance. The windows, set into thick wooden frames are crafted with thick glass.

The third floor of the building is a half-floor that houses a large four-bedroom apartment where the four owners of the shop reside. The living quarters are spacious and elegant, with a warmth and coziness that's unmatched. The basement level is equally impressive, with a storeroom filled with all manner of magical trinkets and curiosities. This level also houses quarters for the guards and apprentices who keep the shop safe and secure.

As you stand before the Four Aces Curiosity Shop, taking in its impressive facade, you can't help but feel a sense of wonder and excitement. What magical wonders lie within its walls, waiting to be discovered? Only one way to find out - step inside and see for yourself.

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
