Warlock Subclass: the Gorgon

Suggested Price $0.75

Warlocks who make a pact with the Gorgon focus on the power of petrification, inspired by the mythical creature of the same name. Gorgon warlocks are masters of turning their enemies to stone and manipulating the resulting statues to their advantage. They are feared by many, for their ability to turn creatures to stone is often seen as a cruel and inhumane act.

Gorgon warlocks are often loners, preferring to operate on the fringes of society. They may have been shunned by others due to their unusual abilities or may have chosen to isolate themselves in order to better hone their craft. Regardless of their reasons, Gorgon warlocks tend to be enigmatic figures, secretive about their abilities and motives.

Gorgon warlocks draw their power from the same source as other warlocks: a pact with a powerful otherworldly being. However, the being that a gorgon warlock forms a pact with is often a creature with ties to petrification, such as a medusa, basilisk, or even a powerful entity known only as the Stone King.

As they progress in power, gorgon warlocks become more adept at manipulating their petrified enemies.

Gorgon warlocks are feared and respected for their ability to control the battlefield and strike fear into the hearts of their enemies. For those willing to harness the power of petrification, the Gorgon warlock offers a unique and deadly path to mastery.

“In the mist-shrouded mountains, a young warlock named Morianthar made a pact with a powerful gorgon, drawn to its fabled ability to petrify its foes. He journeyed to a remote cave, where he performed an ancient ritual before a towering statue of the beast, feeling its power surge through him as he chanted the words of the incantation. Emerging from the cavern, he discovered that his eyes had taken on the same cold, steely gaze as the creatures he had so fervently studied. From that day forth, Morianthar was feared throughout the land, his enemies turned to stone and his mastery of the petrified statues unmatched by any other.”

Gorgon’s Gaze

Starting at 1st level, you can use your bonus action to activate your Gorgon’s Gaze. When you do so, all creatures within 30 feet of you must succeed on a Wisdom saving throw against your Spell Save DC or be petrified for 1 minute. A petrified creature can repeat the saving throw at the end of each of its turns, ending the effect on a success. Once you use this feature, you can’t use it again until you finish a long rest.

Petrification Mastery

Starting at 6th level, you gain proficiency in the Medicine skill, and you have advantage on any checks you make to stabilize a petrified creature. Additionally, you can use your Gorgon’s Gaze feature a number of times per long rest equal to your proficiency bonus.

Gorgon’s Embrace

Starting at 10th level, you can choose to petrify yourself for up to 1 hour, entering a state of suspended animation. While petrified, you are immune to all damage and effects, and cannot take any actions or move. At the end of the duration, you emerge from your petrified state with full hit points and any ongoing conditions removed. Once you use this feature, you can’t use it again until you finish a long rest.

Starting at 14th level, you become immune to petrification and gain resistance to all nonmagical bludgeoning, piercing, and slashing damage. In addition, whenever you reduce a creature to 0 hit points with an attack, you can choose to petrify the creature. Once per day, you can use an action to awaken a creature petrified this way, restoring it to life with 1 hit point. If the creature is unwilling to be restored to life, it must make a Wisdom saving throw against your spell save DC. If the creature succeeds, it remains petrified; if it fails, it is restored to life with 1 hit point. Once you use this feature, you can’t use it again until you finish a long rest.

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.
Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
