The Adventure Hook:

Deep within the heart of the adventurers’ bustling home city, the party is summoned by a trusted friend – a local temple cleric. He's got a mission that will take the party far away from the comforts of the metropolis to the remote Barhaven island. The government seat of the island, Kisimoor Castle, has recently made an interesting discovery, and the chaplain at the Castle needs someone to investigate it.

The cleric beckons the party close to him at the table they all occupy in the corner of the dimly lit tavern on the outskirts of the market district. He explains in a serious, somber tone:

“I have come to you with a request of utmost importance. I have received a letter from my colleague, the chaplain at Castle Kisimoor, and it appears that something sinister may be unfolding within the walls of the fortress. Allow me to explain.

The Castle has long been a source of fascination for me and my fellow clergymen. While it continues to serve as the government seat for the dwarves of Barhaven, it is much more. Rumors abound that hidden within are some of the most ancient and powerful artifacts in the land, and its walls are steeped in a rich and complex history. However, it appears that this history may hold more secrets than we ever imagined!

The chaplain has informed me of a most unusual discovery. While moving an old sarcophagus in the chapel, he and his colleagues uncovered a hidden stairway beneath the tomb. They descended into the depths below, and there they discovered a strange natural chamber unlike any they had ever seen before.

At the far end of the chamber, they found another passageway which had been sealed with rocks and boulders, but also with an ancient and powerful magic. It was clear to them that someone did not want anyone to get in – or perhaps did not want anything to get out!

There are ancient tales from long ago which most dismiss as myths – tales of strange magical passageways that lead into mysterious realms under the ocean. And tales of ghosts and terrible wailing creatures that guard these hidden tunnels. Most believe them to be old wives' tales, but this newly rediscovered passageway suggests otherwise.

I fear that something terrible is unfolding within the Castle. My colleague believes that this discovery may be related to the strange occurrences that have been taking place there recently; reports of strange boats and hooded men with webbed feet making inquiries in towns along the coast. He has asked for my help in uncovering the truth. That is why I have come to you, brave adventurers. I implore you to take up this task and investigate this discovery for me.

Be warned, however. The dangers that lie within this passageway are unknown, and the mysteries that await you may be more than you can handle. But if anyone can uncover the truth and prevent the unfolding of a catastrophe, it is you. Will you accept my task?

These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
