This map module includes Player and DM versions of The Vast Oblivium, Karazikar's Maw. The lair itself is as deadly as the enemy NPCs. The DM versions include useful information like elevations and the location of hidden tunnels. Open the Story entry for this module to learn more.

Note: The original published Out of the Abyss campaign module did not include a map for the battle with Karazikar the Beholder and Shedrak of the Eyes. I interpreted that design choice as intentionally leaning towards "theater of the mind" for this combat encounter. With that in mind, it is important to be forgiving with player movement speed and spell/attack ranges.

The tunnels described in Karazikar's Maw connect the chasm to each shaft at different elevations. Our table agreed that all players and NPCs (including the evil ones) can use the tunnels as shortcuts. We simply used the horizontal distance measured using Fantasy Grounds and did not worry about how the tunnel is actually moving through 3D space. If a player draws their movement through the tunnel, they will be increasing or decreasing in elevation "for free", i.e. without considering the vertical distance. Establish this verbally with the players as soon as they discover the tunnels. Let them know both players and enemy NPCs can utilize this ruling.
