Primordial Gods

ADD TO WISHLIST >

Primordial Gods tells the story of four deities who existed before the dawn of the Multiverse’s creation. It tells the tale of how Nil, the first being, created Locus, god of the cosmos and Tempus, goddess of time, who in turn betrayed their creator to make Rem, the sleeping deity of all creation, and thus the multiverse. It also warns of Nil’s evil intent for the rest of all creation in their lust for revenge.

Contained within this supplement is the following:

-          The story of the Primordial Gods, and how they can be used as alternative domains.

-          The story of the Ferryman, a psychopomp created by the Primordial Gods to ferry souls to a land of the dead

-          12 new Subclasses, one for each of Players Handbook standard classes

-          New Eldritch Invocations for Warlock

-          A new race option, the cursed objects known as the Amalgam

-          Two new backgrounds

-          A new feat

Way of the Necessary Evil

Student of the Deadly Arts is good in principle, giving you an advancing series of choices to help you. However, this is all you get, and you'll get one of three Disciple techniques and up to four Asssassin techniques (one per Tier), so they'd better be really good.

The Disciple techniques are frankly dissapointing. Deception gives you Advantage on two skills you aren't going to be very good at if you're even proficient and a tool proficiency that's not as good as a 1st level spell much of the time, Distraction gives you a skill you're good at an a spell that's kind of meh, and Destruction gives you a really weak spell and encourages you to use Poison damage which we all know kind of sucks at later levels. Seriously, why would you turn Melf's Acid Arrow into Poison damage? What can poison hurt that acid can't?

So how are the techniques? Meh. Some are distractions that aren't likely to be worth the trouble, some give you tricks with poison,...See more

Time Domain

Your Domain Spells are great ones to get for free. Especially Counterspell. Honestly, some of the ones on this list aren't a big deal, but-- COUNTERSPELL!

Disciple of Time is a language proficiency, in a language that, explicity, isn't commonly used. Not great. Glimpse of the future is a little bit better, but an AC boost when surprised is circumstantial, and moving your position on the Initiative chart is only useful now and then. Besides, that uses your Reaction, and you want that for COUNTERSPELL!

Channel Divinity: Chronostasis is pretty cool, even if it only protects you from Ranged Spell or Weapon Attacks. It's just really fun, so I can't complain about it. A shame that you have to use it before you know if it was a hit, though.

Alternative Timeline is okay, letting you, in effect, give a creature Disadvantage on a roll of any kind, which is good, especially for, say, going "Save against my Banishment/Plane Shift/Geast oh wait ROLL...See more

Temporal Conclave

Time Blip is pretty great-- it's a bit like Shield-- but the limited uses are just that, pretty limited. It also has an awkward clause in that you aren't aware of events around you and can't interact with anything until your next turn, but this was your Reaction, so what does that mean? Does the player have to leave the room until their next turn? Aberration Hunter is pretty minor, because Favored Enemy is a ribbon. And good Ranger subclasses have a damage boost here; not having one limits this subclass already.

In the Present Moment is a list of ribbons until you get a feature that lets you use your React to add your Wisdom mod to your AC, and I guess that fills in for Time Blip, unless you boosted your Wisdom, in which case it makes Time Blip completely irrelevant. That's not good design. Rangers need offense!

Grounded in the Present is odd. Most Rangers take Hunter's Mark anyway, although it's not that good a spell. (Conjure Animals or Spike Growth...See more

School of the Interdimensional Librarians

Interdimensional Library is an odd thing; some campaigns wouldn't care much about it at all. But in some games, it would be very valuable, so it's circumstantially good. Researcher Training gives you a spell DC boost, if limited, that's certainly good (if flavorless), plus a Proficiency that's usually welcome.

Expanded Library is much more specialized. And limited. And it's a ribbon, being entirely fluff rather than anything useful.

Master Librarian has a couple of useful tricks, notably a better boost to Spell DCs (which is very good indeed here), plus the ability to cast a spell that isn't prepared. That's enough to make this a solid feature.

Theory into Praxis is very good, for while Wizards have the best spell list, hands down, there's still a number of tricks that other casters have that they can't touch. So, you now have an answer to "Who casts Raise Dead on the Cleric?" which is nice... but this...See more

Soulful

Empathetic Soul is okay; Calm Emotions is a versatile spell, if specialized, and a free Proficiency is always appreciated.

Emotion Projection, however, is amazing. Sure, you can use it like a Shield spell to reduce an attack roll against you, but why would you bother, when you can give them a Saving Throw penalty against your Web or Hold or Banishment spell and just stop them from attacking you at all? Anything that does this is going to be very, very valuable to a spellcaster.

Emotional Intelligence is interseting. The combination of Fear resistance and Surprise immunity is already good, and giving out an Initiative bonus is certainly nice... but if your GM lets a Sorcerer pick up Gift of Alacrity, that part seems much less important. But the combo is very good, because it's a combo.

Manifest Emotions is silly to roll for, but if you're not rolling and just pick an option, the sheer versatilty is quite good, and some of these are great, but watch...See more

Path of the Realist

Firmly Grounded is kinda okay, in that it deals with a circumstance that can knock a Barbarian out of Rage-- being unable to reach an opponent. That's still pretty minor as these things go, though, and I'd hope for better.

Mindfulness Personified is too specific to be useful. I've been in entire campaigns where illusions don't matter, and what are 'Basic Illusions,' anyway? Please be explicit.

Parting the Waves has one ribbon-- Water breathing is useless much of the time and the odds are good someone will just cast Water Breathing on the whole party. Besides, what if your Rage ends while you're underwater? The Primal Roar aspect REALLY needs an explanation fo what it means. "Create pathways" isn't a description. Do you dig tunnels?

Reality Bending is okay, but a lot of the benefits depend on the environment, and the rerolls are pretty limited. Advantage on Str and Con saves is good, though.

Barbarian Subclasses...See more

Pact of the Void

(Okay, this should be Void Patron. Pact of the Void makes it sound like it should be competition for Pact of the Tome or Pact of the Chain.)

The spell list has a mix of meh and good, like most Warlock expanded spell lists. Fear and Command stand out here.

Whispers of the Void, however, is trash. Expertise with Insight for a class that maybe has a Wisdom of 12? Even with the promise of the DM MAYBE giving you extra information, this is just not good, especially if you look at what the good Patrons get. (Seriously, compare this to not just Hexblade or Genie but even Fathom, Fiend or Celestial.)

Touch fo the Void is silly. Adding 1d6 Psychic damage with a Weapon attack on a spellcasting class? If you wanted to be good with weapons, you should play a Hexblade. You aren't one, so you are using Simple weapons and attacking with Str or Dex and even if you took the Blade Pact, this isn't worth it.

Tainted by the Void is a ribbon....See more

I'm going to be short and sweet about Oath of the Time Defender: I would HATE to GM one of these. There's too many loose, wide-open, needing-GM-careful-thought powers in here. I'd vastly prefer something more solid.

Dream-Thief

Dreamsteal is interesting conceptually, but the effect is odd. A bunch of Temp HP is certainly very useful, but killing the enemy so that you don't take the damage is pretty much always going to be even more useful. This still can help you in an emergency, though, so it's hardly useless. Dreamshaper's sleep immunity won't come up that often, but still will have uses; the ability to see the shape of an unconscious target's dreams, however, is very campaign-specific. It might be vitally important or it might never matter in the least.

Improved Dreamshaper is, again, pretty specific. Too much so to be a great feature, to be honest.

Improved Dreamsteal, however, has some nice advantages-- copying an ability from a target could be very powerful, and at this level, I'd actually expect it to give you more options. But the potential utility of stealing a Resistance or Blindsight or a mysterious language is very real. Still, why not open it up to Immunity or other...See more

College of the Stars

Cosmic Radiance is certainly creative, and inflicing Radiant damage as a Reaction is good, but the amount is small. The real boost is the blinding effect, and that's definitely good, since the duration will extend into the next round. (The fact that it's a Con save limits it, however.) Ballet Training is minor, though. Performance skill is something most Bards have, and not that useful; the Light cantrip isn't terribly important, either, and Radiant damage isn't common.

Localized Gravity is particularly useful as it's not limited in the number of uses, as well as being a Reaction. That's very versatile-- it's great for Walls of Fire and Spike Growth, but would also be useful to, for example, pull an ally clear of the followup attacks of a Hydra after it hits them once. This is good, and should be great fun.

Ballet of the Stars is good, but with a noteworthy limitation-- it takes an Action to activate but only lasts 1 minute, so you're probably going...See more

Circle of Corruption

The Circle Spells are a mix, but there's several good ones in here, and I wouldn't ask for more than that. As an extra bonus, several aren't Concentration spells, which is good, since the best spells of Druids are all Concentration.

Corrupt Beast is very powerful, but with a limit, since it depends on what Beasts you encounter. In some games, this could be useless, but I imagine that Beasts will turn up eventually, and in some games, this is going to be extremely powerful, the more so since there's no Save against the effect. The duration is almost meaningless-- yes, it's as long as Wild Shape, but by 4th level, two hours means that you can take a Short Rest before the duration is expired to extend the time, and at higher levels, it's going to be trivial to keep your corrupted Brown Bear as long as it survives. At low levels, this is going to be very good-- adding 1d8 damage to each attack of an ordinary bear or wolf is very strong, and this doesn't use Concentration...See more

You asked for feedback; I'll give you some on the subclasses. This is going to be a multi-post because I want to be specific.

Armourer of the Ages:

Armoury of the Ages is largely a ribbon; being able to swap weapons in and out isn't very useful most of the time, and how often will you need to change weapons mid-attack? The only benefit is being able to have a weapon count as magical on the first attack of a turn when it isn't magical, and that will stop mattering when you acquire your first magical weapon. While there are circumstances where this could be useful, they are just that-- circumstantial-- and this can't possibly compare with the likes of spellcasting, Expertise Dice, Runes, or even Fighting Spirit. Cosmic Knowledge is fine as a minor add-on, but that's all that it is-- an Eldritch Knight gets Arcana plus spells which will be useful all the time!

Arsenal of the Ages is similarly limited; handy if you're attacked while sleeping, but otherwise, how often will...See more

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
