An Elf and an Orc Had a Little Baby 3

ADD TO WISHLIST >

A sequel to the Adamantine-bestselling An Elf and an Orc Had a Little Baby. 44 New and Expanded Parentages and a Whole Host of New Upbringings!

An Elf and an Orc Had a Little Baby 3 is a 110-page rules supplement that, alone or together with the rest of the series, entirely replaces chapter 2 of the Player’s Handbook. Instead of D&D’s bioessentialist approach, this title separates biological traits and cultural traits into two categories: parentage and upbringing.

To create a new player character using this supplement, players choose two birth parents and an upbringing. (Then they go on to choose a background and class, as normal.) Players can feel free to create any combination to create a unique and vibrant character.

Inside this title, you’ll discover

  • 44 New and Expanded Parentages, from aboleth to yeti;

  • Over a dozen New Upbringings, from being raised by brewers to stalwart folk;

  • a robust system for making your own upbringing options.

I love this concept, and these books develop it brilliantly! My son and I have really enjoyed all the cool and outlandish options.

I notice that vols. 2 & 3 don't have clickable links in their Table of Contents. Is there any chance that will be corrected in a future edition? Also, will there ever be an edition combining all three?

Kind of an odd ask, but any chance on getting Beholder and Mimic options? I found 3rd party content on making them playable races, but I'd like to be able to mix them for a homebrew campaign I'm working on.

We're waiting to see what species look like in the 2024 Player's Handbook before making anything new for this series. Thanks!

We're patiently waiting for the Roll20 conversion sales numbers that would make more conversions make sense.

Thanks!

If you do a fourth one, can you add Imposing Presence and Labyrinthine Recall (and any other abilities) as additional traits for the minotaur? The latter was added in Monsters of the Multiverse to the base race.

Thanks for the question! I think we're all waiting to see what WotC does with their 2024 Player's Handbook before we invest any time into revising the books.

Hello. I am debating if buying this book, but I would prefer a list of the parentages and upbringings from a to z to know what content will I find and if that content is enough to make me wanna buy it.

Sure thing. Click on the "Full-Size Preview" link just below the cover image on this product page. You'll find a complete list in the table of contents. You can also read several dozen pages before buying anything.

Hello, I've purchased all the 3 of the books in this series and was wondering would 2 and 3 ever get a physical hard cover book. just curious because I'm such a sucker for physical books and would love to add these to my shelf.

We'd definitely like to do that. It's a process that costs several hundred dollars if we do it well, so we'll have to wait and see if sales continue strong.

Is it possible to have this be print-on-demand instead, if that will help alleviate costs on your end?

I certainly would invest in physical copies of books 2 and 3. I just ordered 4 additional copies of the first book to give to my friends since I loved my copy so much! So, sincerely hoping these get opportunities to be printed as well.

Does this title have specific sections on Dragonlance? It is currently listed in the new Dragonlance section, but I do not see any Dragonlance-specific content in the title. Thank you for clarifying.

Not a specific section, but it does have both Dragonlance and Spelljammer content. The kender parentage for the former and the hadozee, plasmoid, giff, etc. for the latter.

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
