Myths of Wildspace

The spelljammer emerged from the cloud of space dust like a bat from the Hells, soaring through the nebula in pursuit of its quarry. The captain, a giff with one eye and a mechanical hand, loaded her rifle and strode over to the railing. She’d been chasing the Pale Light for decades, and each time, it had given her the slip—but this time was going to be different. This time, she’d thought of every threat and prepared for every escape route. This time, she had enchanted gunpowder and enough ammunition to fell an entire army. This time, she would have her vengeance against the beast that shattered her ship and killed her crew.

Of the varied beasts, monsters, and heroes of the Astral Sea, some are so powerful that myths spring up around their exploits. These creatures are a step beyond their peers, elevated to nearly god-like power by ancient rituals, cosmic artifacts, the will of deities, and other, even stranger circumstances. The bravest and most foolish adventurers seek out these mythical beings in hopes of making a name for themselves—or to take their power and become legends themselves.

This book describes a handful of mythic creatures and characters for your Spelljammer campaigns. Some of these creatures are more difficult versions of those presented in official sourcebooks like Boo’s Astral Menagerie, while others are original creatures themed around Wildspace and the Astral Sea.

This Book Includes:

  • 11 new legendary creatures with Mythic traits and Mythic actions, ranging all the way from CR 14 to CR 26 (including named examples!)
  • An explanation of Mythic creatures and how to use them
  • A variety of Mythic rewards for parties strong enough to overcome Mythic threats
  • Stylish artwork befitting the strange and eccentric worlds of Wildspace

The Creatures:

  • The Astral Elf Monarch (CR 14), peak of the divine hierarchy of astral elves
  • The Mercane Trademaster (CR 15), a psionic giant with a shipload of magic items
  • The Kindori Deathnought (CR 16), the vengeful reanimated husk of a kindori-turned-Spelljammer
  • The Vampirate Lord (CR 16), a shapechanging vampirate that rules over entire fleets
  • The Giff Champion (CR 17), a holy gunslinger and messenger of forgotten Giff gods
  • The Comet Prince (CR 20), a powerful fiend of misfortune that rides the flaming remains of a shattered hell
  • The Moonshell Isopod (CR 20), a stony titan often mistaken for a true moon
  • The Reigar Doombringer (CR 21), artistic destroyer of entire worlds
  • The Githyanki Lich-Queen (CR 22), matriarchal ruler of all githyanki raiders
  • The Lunar Greatwyrm (CR 26), a lunar dragon that has betrayed and consumed its echoes to become a greatwyrm
  • The Solar Greatwyrm (CR 26), a solar dragon that has absorbed its echoes and their hunting grounds in other worlds

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
