Tendrils in the Dark

Tendrils in the Dark

Tendrils in the dark is an investigative horror adventure intended for a level 6 part of four, that lasts one-to-two sessions and has 3 acts. Players will come across the small mining village Ferrum Peaks and soon find something is very wrong. Before long, the party will find themselves plunged into the town's mystery.

Trust Is Hard To Come By

In Ferrum Peaks, people aren't always as they seem. Throughout the adventure, the party will meet a variety of characters who will share information with them, but not everyone has the same motives, and it's up to the players to figure out who's telling the truth. However, there's only so much they can find on the surface.

You'll Have To Dig Deeper

There's a lot of information the players can only access on the surface; however, eventually, they'll need to go underground into the sewers to find out the truth.

While developing this adventure we wanted to ensure that content is easy to read and is presented in a way that it's easy for DM's to navigate the adventure to easily identify what is relevant or important. In order to achieve this we've taken the traditional note and narrative boxes and expanded on them. Our hopes is that this system makes it easier for new GM's to run D&D, and for adventures to a be a bit less confusing to run.

For users who use screen readers, we've worked together with DOTS RPG for recommendations and have assigned header values to these note boxes so that they're easier to navigate. We hope that this proves to be helpful and are open to feedback on how to improve the system even more in future. We have no dillusions that we got it perfect on our first attempt and always aim to improve.

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.
Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
