The Carnival

ADD TO WISHLIST >

The carnival has come to town and people flock to the large tent every day to enjoy a bit of entertainment and excitement. Rare beasts, comical acrobatics, dancing puppets, and games of chance entice those who want to break their mundane existence; even if only for a little while.

But the carnival isn't all that it seems to be. It is set on a darker quest as it leaves a wake of ruin, poverty, and despair wherever it goes.

This is a 1.5 to 2-hour adventure that can be dropped into almost any campaign setting that you run. It includes three optional adventure hooks, stat blocks for all creatures, a basic map layout, and a series of possible ending results. The adventure can be broken down to adjust for varying levels of PCs, as explained in the advenutre booklet. During a play test I ran four level 11 PCs through it, encountering all creatures (not simultaniously), and they were able to make it out in the end with one PC in the negative HP, one barely holding on, one moderately injured, and the fourth lightly injured. The CR to PC level rating listed in the adventure is with the understanding that all creatures will engage simultanously by said level listed. A smarter party with lower levels can defeat the entire Carnival piecemeal. So it will be up to the individual DM to know what their party can or cannot handle, as the estimates of PCs levels to monster CR is simply just that, an estimate. I fully encourage altering or adding more creatures as you see fit to create a tougher or easier challenge to your party.

Also included are three other short encounter adventures, unrelated to The Carnival, that can help you fill out some time or flesh out some parts of your current world setting. These all use standard creatures.

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
