The Colossal Caper

I want you to steal that.

The man in red points up across the square towards a colossal figure. Looming over the area is the God Catcher, one of the Walking Statues of Waterdeep. Its left hand and right foot are pressed against the ground as if it's trying to pull itself up. Its right arm is raised high into the sky, reaching out towards a large sphere.

The Colossal Caper is a Tier 2 adventure designed for three to five 5th-7th level characters. This adventure starts with a unique request and takes place in Waterdeep. It involves the characters investigating and exploring the Walking Statues of Waterdeep.

The huge statues were once constructs that move around and defended the city. They haven't been active in years and now seen as landmarks. Eventually the players will explore the inside of a statue which is an extraplanar realm filled with surprises.

This adventure asks "Can the characters steal one these huge statues? And what happens if they do?"

Included in this title is:

  • A 25 page adventure through the streets of Waterdeep.
  • A PDF that includes bookmarks and hyperlinks for ease of use.
  • Full maps and statblocks needed to run the adventure.
  • An example of rival group that adds a unique layer of difficulty by going after the same goal as the players.
  • A set rules for a chase sequence.
  • A printer friendly PDF that’s screen reader compatible.

Take a tour of the Walking Statues of Waterdeep and see if you can find the secrets hidden inside.

- Interesting adventure that is well written out and easy to use.
- Added flavor with the highlight of it all a newspaper shot of a missing statue.
- Usable advice to increase difficulty that gives a helping hand to GM's with strong parties.
- A cool reward that is specifically awesome in campaigns where timelimits often occur.

The only 'negative' I would say is, that personally this adventure is hard to re-skin in anything but waterdeep. While I think it is possible I would not suggest doing it, and you lose some super cool flavor when you do.

I wanted to ask, what is the estimated length of the adventure? Could it be a 4 hour oneshot?

Yes, it should take about 3 to 4 hours to run. There are 8 initial locations the players can choose from but they only need to go to one to continue the adventure.

That being said a very diligent group might visit all 8 locations before making a decision. And in that case, well, that's going to take more than four hours.

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
