Orc Chief's Throne - Spelljammer

ADD TO WISHLIST >

This adventure is designed to be used as a bridge between the free Spelljammer Academy on DND Beyond and the Light of Xaryxis adventure that is included in the Spelljammer: Adventures in Space book. If the players know they are in a Spelljammer campaign they will be itching to have their own spelljamming ship as soon as possible. For me, following the two mentioned adventures did not fulfill that desire in a timely fashion.

Completing this will give PCs an opportunity to start the Light of Xaryxis with their own spelljamming ship, as well as give a clear path that leads from Spelljammer Academy into Light of Xaryxis.

It is recommended for a party of level 5 characters and can ideally be completed in a single session.

On the River Rauvin in the Sword Coast, 8 githyanki had established a secret outpost several years ago to gather intelligence on the region. A tribe of orcs discovered the outpost and their spelljamming ship, slaughtered the inhabitants and fortified the area for themselves. Not realizing the full potential of the ship, the orc chief Ogak had the spelljamming helm set up in the keep as her throne.

Even without the flying capabilities, the orcs now have access to a fast, tough ship with several siege weapons. The orcs are using it very effectively to raid along the river.

Just ran this for a party of tweens and teens as an intro to LOX. They’re partway through (did a night raid so ship is gone but they’ve taken the keep). They really liked planning out their attack and excited to have their own ship.

That's exciting to hear! I actually run a game for the same age group at the library :)

Ran the rest of it yesterday and they definitely took a unique approach to feeding the minotaur. Once they figured out that they could get what they want by feeding it they decided to use Sacred Flame to cook one of the orcs they defeated and feed that to the minotaur. I worry sometimes. :)

Ha, that's great! The minotaur was my favorite part of the adventure.

For the months of June and July I always donate my profits to GLSEN (Gay, Lesbian, & Straight Education Network). For 2023 this year, I raised $8.93 and rounded the donation off to $10. Thank you for everyone who helped contribute and I hope you enjoy the materials you got in the process.

I like this adventure and would like to use it as a bridge between the Spelljammer Academy and Light of Xaryxis, but I have one question. If this takes place in the Forgotten Reams, where and when does the Astral Rain take place?

I'm so happy you're enjoying it!

In my campaign I'm having them take the prisoners they rescued to Silverymoon and having Chapter 1 of LoX start there. Any of the cities along the Rauvin river would work though. Everlund or Sundabar would also be ideal. Alternatively, Mirt could have someone from the Academy use a sending spell to alert them to the problem and with Elaina Saertell's help you can jump right to chapter 2.

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
