Spelljammer Shipyard: Build and Customize Your Own Spelljammers

Spelljammer Shipyard

The engineer wiped her forehead and slid out from beneath the engine, sliding her miniature welding torch back into her belt. The last journey had a helluva toll on the ship, and each part of the engine needed a careful examination. If she did her job well, the ship would be flying better than ever; if not, they would probably get halfway out of the atmosphere before the entire ship collapsed in an explosive ball of plasma. That was always the coin she flipped, and damn if she wasn’t good at flipping it.

While most of the general public knows very little about how a spelljammer operates, crew members don’t have that luxury: they need to know their ship as well as their own body if they want to arrive at the next port in one piece. An adventurer that can build, modify, and repair their spelljammer as the situation demands is much more likely to survive the rigors of Wildspace.

This book is a guide to building and customizing spelljammers, whether you’re piecing one together from scratch or modifying an existing model to suit your characters’ unique style. It also includes a small repertoire of new spelljammer models to encounter (or pilot) on your interstellar journeys.

Features

—Lightweight rules for building and customizing spelljammers

—23 room-like modules, like the Arcaneum, the Automaton Bay, and the Ward Generator

—Improvements for each module that improve and modify their functions

—Five new spelljammer ships, each with a simple side-view map

Hey Eleanor, would you be interested in having this module converted into a Fantasy Grounds Module? I specialize in these types of sourcebooks.

Question before I buy in, is this compatible with 5e's current spelljammers or is this something I'll need to tweek to make work?

Hiya, thanks for the comment! This book was designed as a companion and extension to the Astral Adventurer's Guide, so you shouldn't have many issues running it alongside official 5e content.

Question before I buy, are these images able to be imported into a VTT such as Roll20 for battle map usage? Am going to be running spelljammer soon and want these ship maps, but don’t know if I’ll be able to import these in as battlemaps. I will be using Roll20, and I do own subscription if file size is an issue. Any help on this would be greatly appreciated

I'm not too familiar with VTTs, but the ship maps are small .png files, so I doubt there'd be many issues. However, do note that the maps are only simple diagrams from a side view, not floorplans with 5-foot grids.

i have a question on pg5 you give the formula of max cargo hold as, "max Cargo = 1ton every 5 modules installed" but on pg 8 under cargo hold, the last sentence states for every cargo hold installed cargo limit increase by 5 ton, so what is the right answer?

Good question! They're cumulative. The basic cargo is 1 ton per 5 modules, and then each Cargo Hold adds a further 5 tons on top of that. So if you have 5 modules, one of which is a Cargo Hold, you have 6 tons of cargo space—one from the size of the ship, five from the Cargo Hold.

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
