Dangers in the City

five compelling urban-themed stories.

Each one page module tells a unique story, carefully crafted and crammed with all the information needed to run the adventure.

The five Adventure Modules:

SLUM PRESIGE

A shipment of goods went missing a few days ago, and the private buyer Mathaus Telman is keen to be reunited with his purchases. The stolen items were in two crates that came off the Sea Leaf ship. The items were for his new art project and included priceless pictures and magical art tools. He will pay a generous reward for their safe return.

DAMNED NEIGHBOURHOOD

A city neighbourhood has long been known, unkindly, as the ‘Crawling Corpse’, and its inhabitants as ‘cockroaches’. It has high levels of crime, but the recent murder spree is alarming everyone in the area, and no-one is owning up to the deeds.

HELM JEWEL HEIST

Aristocrat, Falmus Surger has died. His collection is famous, most notably, the jewel that once formed the centrepiece in the Helm of the Mountain. With an auction taking place at his mansion, many would pay handsomely to get their hands on it.

FIGHT OR BLIGHT

A strange disease is spreading across the city, that can be caught regardless of creature type and class. It causes those afflicted to appear dazed, act irrationally and can be fatal. The Watch are recruiting mercenaries to help run the city and will pay extra for info on the disease’s source and how to stop it.

THE SEWER KING

Major crime gangs have come to a truce with the law after several mysterious deaths occurred in the city’s sewer system. The City Watch seek assistance but ask for discretion. They will offer a large reward for stopping the sewer predator, offering six Prestidigitation scrolls and a city map marked with sewer entrances.

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
