ADD TO WISHLIST >

An ancient temple in a hidden valley holds a long-lost temple to the Three Faces of Fate, and a deadly threat ripping the separation between the shadow realm and the material plane. Will you settle for simple exploration, or will you courageously run into the danger and confront the lingering shadow?

*****

Story Overview

A shadow lingers over Twilight Valley, a place formely home to a temple dedicated to the Three Faces of Fate. The ancient megalithic structure was built with large standing stones designed to make travel to the realms of light and shadow possible, origninally enabling somone to take a spiritual journey to deepen their understanding of Fate's intricate tapestry.

Recently, an archeologist uncovered a tome referencing a temple site “abandoned to shadow,” and it contained enough geographical details to pinpoint a rough location: Twilight Valley. As the characters investigate the valley's locations for clues to help them locate and access the lost temple, they encounter all manner of opportunities for exploration—interesting creatures, fun encounters, and powerful artifacts—while learning more about the lingering shadow waiting for them at the temple.

When they finally arrive at the ancient site, will the explorers courageously run into the shadows and defeat the evil within, or will they turn tail and run?

Adventure Details

This adventure is for 6th-level characters, and is designed to encourage exploration. The adventure is expected to run about 6-8 hours, and includes a recommendation for shorter play.

Fate's Lingering Shadow is intentionally written to be flexible; play it as a one shot, or use it to hide any macguffin or plot device. Its open-ended lore can be run as is, or easily adapted to almost any setting or story. For example, the "shadow realm" might be the Forgotten Realms' Shadowfell, Theros' underworld, or Eberron's plane of Mabar.

Content Warnings: This adventure contains undead.

The characters must purify a site holy to Fate’s three aspects and defeat a shadow dragon. A two-session adventure with a strong core. Might be a good choice for adapting to Theros. Playable with some small adjustments, mostly to hook and villain cha [...]

This is an amazing adventure! It's tight! But not so strict that you can't play it during your campaign or borrow from it. It's incredibly detailed and easy to follow. The maps look good and locations are detailed. Masterfully written. I look f [...]

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
