Thief of Destiny

Thief of Destiny is a mythical heist, featuring escape room-like puzzles.  It is designed to fit into an existing campaign.  It is optimized for a party of five or six 7th to 10th level adventurers, but can accommodate characters in a wider range. It is expected to take 6-10 hours to run this adventure.

“I haven’t always held the beautiful and mysterious form at which you now gape in awe - I was once mortal. I was at the pinnacle of my craft; the greatest I could become. My destiny fulfilled. And I found I resented it. The gods had treated me and my companions like toys, game pieces, sacrificed and tossed away. I was a piece chosen to be crowned - many of those I loved were not.”

You are aided by a mysterious figure who introduces themself as a deity, Prærieulf. Prærieulf tells you they created an artifact - the Aldrnari - so powerful that it caused them to ascend to godhood. It is now lost to them, stolen by the other gods and guarded so that no other mortal can achieve divine power. It is too late for Prærieulf to regain their full strength, but they believe the gods should not have unchecked power over destiny. Prærieulf wishes the party members to steal the Aldrnari back so that they may gain its power and someday stand against the gods as one of them.

It's an intriguing idea: can the experience of an escape room (escape rooms?) be captured in an adventure module? It's definitely the best attempt I've seen. There are small puzzles that replicate an escape room puzzle, but this is a MAS [...]

In this scenario, players make their way through the same temple at two different times to regain a divine artefact. Heavy railroads for the players and weak characterisation of the villain, as well as limited social interaction throughout, in my opini [...]

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.
Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
