Introduction

It’s difficult to imagine Yon without thunderous clouds and shocks of lightning. But before Endelyn Moongrave’s reign, Yon was home to starry night skies, beautiful auroras, and glittering constellations. It is said that “she” who dreams high above the clouds controls the weather, and that the throne is the entrance to her domain. Will the nightmares never end?

A Wild Beyond the Witchlight Expansion - What's this all about?

Chapter 4: Yon is the third portion of Prismeer described in The Wild Beyond the Witchlight. Each of the locations presented in this chapter can be explored quickly, outside of Motherhorn. This mini-adventure aims to expand the location of the Astronomer’s Throne and turn it into a memorable encounter with implications for Yon. At this location, characters can engage in some initiative-order high-stakes action, with an option to avoid directly attacking or killing any monsters.

The map of Yon in Chapter 4 of The Wild Beyond the Witchlight depicts the Astronomer’s Throne in the north-west corner, but the location itself is merely a quick random encounter. At this location, the party learns of an elf named Mazikoth and can sit on the throne to receive the benefit of an additional skill proficiency. This adventure expands on this story, adding an exciting dream-realm location where the party can instead help save a cursed moonstone dragon in order to receive this reward. As always, it is up to you how much of the content you want to use. It’s perfectly fine to use some parts of this supplement while discarding others, or simply let the ideas presented here inspire new ideas of your own. This supplement assumes a party of 4-6 characters of 6th level with scaling options for higher level.

This Adventure Includes:

  • New and Expanded Location. Explore the Astronomer's Throne and Dream Star Sanctum!
  • Color VTT-Ready Maps. Save the moonstone dragon in the Dream Star Sanctum.
  • An Illustrated Puzzle. Solve the riddle of the constellations.

Adventure Summary

The party arrives at the Astronomer’s Throne by chance or by design. At the throne, they encounter a riddle engraved into the rock which they must solve using a strange telescope and gazing at the constellations in the sky. Once the riddle is solved, the party enters a portal into the Dream Star Sanctum, where a moonstone dragon is held in a permanent sleep under the guard of an evil gauth. The characters must fight or distract the gauth while they disable six crystals in order to wake the sleeping dragon. Once the dragon is saved and the gauth defeated, the party is rewarded and the fate of Yon may change forever.

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
