I just bought these and they look great. I noticed that the file B2_CavesOfChaos_Exterior_9520x6300_Grid and the _NoGrid are the same file (both have a grid on them). Would it be possible to get an update with the ungridded file? Thank you!

Hi Richard,
Thank you very much for buying the conversion guide. I have uploaded a new zip file that includes the corrected map. B2_CavesOfChaos_Exterior_9520x6300_NoGrid no longer has a grid. Thank you for letting me know about the issue.
Take care and happy gaming.

I don't suppose you have a B1 conversion?

Hi John,

I have 34 products on DMs guild, most of them conversions, but I do not have B1 In Search of the Unknown. https://www.dmsguild.com/browse.php?keywords=Ernie+Noa&x=0&y=0&author=&artist=&pfrom=&pto= B1 would be easy to do, but as the rules of DMsGuild allow only for a bare-bones conversion it would be pretty light, as the original Dungeon is unstocked. I had considered doing X1 Isle of Dread, N1 In Search of the Cult of the Reptile God or DL7 Dragons of Light next. I am ready to start any of these, but have not started. Perhaps I'll add B1 In Search of the Unknown to the list. I love the room of pools from that Dungeon. I hope my conversions have been helpful for you.
Best regards and Happy Gaming.

Hey John,
I have created a 5e Conversion Guide with Maps for B1 In Search of the Unknown. https://www.dmsguild.com/product/401794/B1-In-Search-of-the-Unknown--5e-Conversion-Guide-with-Maps It was an unusual project as the original dungeon is unstocked and was intended as an introductory module for DM and player alike. I have converted the wandering monster tables as well as the list of monsters suggested to stock the dungeon. Enjoy and happy gaming.

If the only 5E conversion out there for B2 was the "Classic Modules Today" version, I would understand why this conversion was made. However, Goodman Games has made an official conversion called "Into the Borderlands" which has the original module and the 5e module in a huge tome of a book.

What I can't figure out is why this conversion was created.
I see a few possibilities:
1. You made this for people who already own the original module and just want a conversion
2. You wanted to improve upon the conversion done by Goodman Games and thus created your own.
3. You made this for people who don't want to buy a huge $40 tome of a book to play B2 in 5E.
4. You don't think the Goodman Games version is close enough to the original so a simple straight conversion is better in your opinion.
5. You think the maps you created are a significant improvement/value.

Could you explain a little bit as to what your conversion approach is and what...See more

Hi Jonathon,
I have done quite a few 5e conversions, primarily because I enjoy writing them. It is a very interesting and enjoyable way to pour through old publications from days gone by and re-connect with them. It scratches that gaming itch when I cannot game.

I have also laid out the conversion guide in a manner I find most helpful. I have posted them at DMs Guild hoping the conversion guide and or maps are of value to anyone. Folks have been kind enough to provide some feedback and pick a few copies here and there. I’ve been encouraged, so I keep converting old modules both as a passion project and because others seem to enjoy them.

DMs Guild allows for a conversion of old modules that are “streamlined, bare-bones conversion guide for someone who already owns the classic adventure (i.e., encounter-by-encounter conversion notes with any 5E stats needed, leaving out all other content…)”. This conversion guide refers to existing monsters by book and page number....See more

Thank you Ernie,

I appreciate you taking the time to give a full and well thought-out response. I'll be purchasing a copy to check it out. I'd be interested to get your take on how you run these old modules. A good example of what I mean is the Dungeon of the Mad Mage companion guide by Wyatt Trull. Although, perhaps Wyatt's guide tends to dip into creative writing(well done at that) a little more than what I intend. One of the things that I have noticed with OSR is everything Gygax and Arneson took fore-granted from their own well established experience as DMs that isn't obvious to someone reading an adventure.

You seem to be quite productive with your conversions. It's good to see someone doing something they enjoy.

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
