Baba Yaga's Book of Weird Magic

Now Available on Fantasy Grounds!

Lantern raised, the woman pushed her way through the thicket of brambles and into the moonlit clearing. According to the rumors in town, something strange lived in this part of the forest—a wooden hut on huge bony legs that strode through the trees like the world’s strangest predator. At first, she dismissed the rumors as morality tales—the kind of story meant to stop kids from wandering into the trees and getting lost late at night. But when she reached the clearing, this notion was ripped away from her: a wooden hut was indeed crouching in the clearing on stilted chicken legs, lights peering out of two windows like dreadful eyes. What’s worse, a looming figure was silhouetted in the left window, impossibly gaunt and gnarled at the spine. The woman suddenly felt exposed, like her blanket had been torn off her bed in the middle of the night. As curiosity and terror mingled in her stomach, the woman stepped towards the hut, intent on meeting the curator of this curious cabin.

Baba Yaga's Book of Weird Magic is a guide to the most enigmatic hag in Dungeons & Dragons: Baba Yaga. This 41-page book delves into the history of Baba Yaga, combining lore from earlier editions with new original content to build one comprehensive character. It includes:

This section explores the hag art of Weird Magic, in which a hag draws out the innate strangeness of an object to imbue it with magical powers. Weird Magic is presented in two ways: 36 unique magic items themed around hags and the macabre, and 9 new spells for a variety of classes.

This section is a deep delve into Baba Yaga: her history, relationships, powers, and more. It provides a stat block for the hag sorceress and suggestions for how to run her in a combat encounter.

This section builds out Baba Yaga's fantastical demiplane, The Dancing Hut, as an improvised dungeon for Tier 4 characters, which assembles itself as the characters explore. The Dancing Hut can include up to 36 unique chambers, each adding an encounter or bit of lore to delight and despair your players.

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.
Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
