Ranger Unleashed: Core Class Revised

Suggested Price $1.00

UPDATE: A new version of the Ranger Unleashed has been uploaded to DMs Guild! It has more condensed features and more professional formatting, as well as several balance changes made to the overall class.

The ranger has been my favorite D&D class since I first started playing. With the newest incarnation of the game (5E) the ranger saw some major changes, many of which felt lackluster when compared to previous editions. Several revisions were attempted through Unearthed Arcana and sourcebooks like Tasha’s Cauldron of Everything, but these still failed to bring the class in line with its counterparts and competitors: the fighter and the rogue. My core intent is to fix the ranger’s core problems: identity and scaling, without compromising the specific design aesthetic the original creators intended. For this reason, the class has been changed as little as possible, adding slight buffs to existing features rather than overhauling the core of the class. These alternative class features act as buffs for their pre-existing counterparts. When choosing to play this version of the ranger, I caution the choice to mix and match these features with other variants of the ranger class outlined in the Player's Handbook, as things could get quickly confusing (many features share names with those in the core rules).

A Work in Progress

Everyone makes mistakes. I am always trying to improve upon what I create, and I fully expect multiple incarnations of this optional archetype to be produced throughout its lifespan, based on feedback from other DMs Guild users and those in my playtest circles. I fully intend to maintain all previous versions of the class, so that when you add this to your library you will have access to the newest and all previous versions

As I touched on above, I strongly recommend that you do not allow players to pick and choose between these features and the core options at every level. Many of these reworked features share names with those offered in the Player’s Handbook and Unearthed Arcana, meaning things can get very confusing at an alarming rate should you not pay attention. I would advise that you give your players a choice at 1st level. They can follow the default ranger class or opt for the Ranger Reborn supplement. Alternatively, you could make the Ranger Reborn your default version of the ranger, only allowing players to take these options. Despite this, it is YOUR game, and nothing will ever change that. Do what you wish, these are only suggestions, and I am certain whatever you will come up with is far superior to my interpretations.

Because many features in this class supplement utilize text from the Player’s Handbook and Unearthed Arcana, there could be reason for some discontent among the original writers. If you have concerns about this, please contact me and we can talk about arranging proper credit.

UPDATE: For clarification, when the ranger shifts their favored enemy to a new creature type, the language does not change.

While I'm just grabbing it and am yet to check it out, I would say your best finding a different name, as there's already at least 2 other 'Ranger Reborn' on DMsGuild, plus others scattered about.
Just for search optimisation and to be recognisable.

Thank you so much for your interest. Please let me know if there are any changes you would like to see, or if there are any typos. I noticed the same shortly after uploading the title, so it has been officially renamed the Ranger Unleashed.

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.
Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
