An Elf and an Orc Had a Little Baby 2

ADD TO WISHLIST >

A sequel to the Adamantine-bestselling An Elf and an Orc Had a Little Baby. 32 New and Expanded Parentages and a Whole Host of New Upbringings!

An Elf and an Orc Had a Little Baby 2 is a 91-page rules supplement that, together with the original, entirely replaces chapter 2 of the Player’s Handbook. Instead of D&D’s bioessentialist approach, this title separates biological traits and cultural traits into two categories: parentage and upbringing.

To create a new player character using this supplement, players choose two birth parents and an upbringing. (Then they go on to choose a background and class, as normal.) Players can feel free to create any combination to create a unique and vibrant character.

Inside this title, you’ll discover

  • 32 New and Expanded Parentages, from abeil to wraith;

  • 20+ New Upbringings, from being raised by air mages to wary folk;

  • a robust system for making your own upbringing options.

FAQ

What Do I Need to Use This Product? You only need a copy of the Player's Handbook or the free Basic Rules.

Any of the Parentages Work Together? That's entirely up to the people at your table. Whatever you all decide, this book contains rules to make it a viable in-world reality.

Is the entire series in the works to be ported to Roll20? I have been using the first and second books for a while now and just recently got the first book for Roll20 since I saw it was available and I really like the series.

It's very unlikely. We haven't even sold 50 copies of the Roll20 version so far.

I have a question - I see that Harengon all traits are in summary a 14 points - what about 2 poits remaining if both parents are harengons? And second question, centaur from the first volume has Fey trait on the list, but Hag in this volume does not - why?

Thanks for the question. When designing this supplement, we budgeted 6-8 points per birth parent. So the harengon having only 14 points of traits falls within our target range (average of 7 per birth parent).

Not including the Fey trait for the hag entry was an accidental omission, but since it's worth 0 points, feel free to include it.

genuine question because i'm arguing about this now: does sphinx inscrutable protect from rahadin's deadly choir. this is a legitimate query.

I would say no. Inscrutable protects against someone reading your thoughts and emotions. But Rahadin isn't collecting information and he isn't actually casting a spell either.

i bought an elf and an orc had a little baby 2, but when i open it on my macbook with the preview app, the search function doesn't work and copy-pasting text will result in backwards text and capturing text from unhighlighted paragraphs. love the content, just wanted to report the issue!

Hi Juliet!

Sorry you're having problems with it. I don't own a Macbook, but I wasn't able to replicate the issues you described using Adobe Acrobat on my laptop. Do you have the same issues using a different app?

Do you plan on making a third edition of the "An Elf and an Orc Had a Little Baby" series? And if so, will the Vanara, Wemic (lion centuars), Ipotane (two horse-legged hornless satyrs), Beastfolk (sharks, wolves, and etc.), Plant-like Folk (if they exist), Oni, Tanuki, Japanese version of the Dragonborn (if they exist), the races of Spelljammer, and the updates of the races in Monsters of the Multiverse be in it?

Also are you creating new Upbringings like stuff involving Feral Folk (people raised by animals), the Mistreated/Misunderstood (basically something similar to Naruto's sad childhood), and some involving being a former test subject or science experiment? Along with creating new backgrounds as well?

I've been enjoying creating tons of PCs with the first & second books so far. And I'm still making more due to the limitless creativity and imagination contained within them.

Glad you're liking them! We are making a third volume. It's already written with editing getting underway very soon.

Some, but not all, of your suggestions are in the new book. We hope you like it!

Hiya! Loved the first book, me and my fiancee got the hardcopy and use it for our campaign quite a bit. We'd like to add the second book to our collection as well. Are there any plans for a hardcopy version of the second book?

Thanks for your time!

Thanks for the question, and the interest!

We're planning on it, but we're trying to get the 3rd volume published (soon!) before we make more hardcovers.

I really love this whole series. If/when you do a volume three I would love to see Trolls, Treants (and hopefully other creatures that don't start with the letters 'Tr' lol)

When choosing traits, if I take a trait with a cost of -2, does that mean I can spend 18 points instead of 16?

No, not exactly. "An Elf and an Orc Had a Little Baby" and its sequel completely replace chapter 2 of the Player's Handbook and any other D&D "races" wherever they are found.

Hello! I am incredibly excited to look more into your guides to mixed heritage. However, I've noticed that Rakshasas and Dhampir parentages are not included in either of the two books. Are/would they be considered for volume three?

Many thanks!

Hello!

The dhampir is really a mixed vampire, so you can make one using parentage traits from the vampire entry + one other.

We'll think about including rakshasas in another volume.

Thanks!

Hi! These are so cool. The next time I run a game, am totally using this in place of the current heritage/race system. Question? Now that the Spelljammer/Dragonlance races are pretty much officially added, any plans to add a mini supplement to include them? I'd really love to see what a half-plasmoid might be like.
Kudos again for a rad product!

how do I determine the character size using this book? The first book included sizes and I want to do a halfling mixed race, but I don't see height modifiers. Is it safe to assume that a Medium race and Small race mix will be on the lower end of Medium?

Good question!

We made some substantial changes after LegalKimchi did a sensitivity reading. One of those was to not be so prescriptive about height. That being said, you can still determine whether or not your character is Small. If you inherit the Little trait from both your birth parents, your size is Small. If you inherit the Little trait from only one or neither birth parent, your size is Medium.

Do you need to buy the first book and the second book, or would 2 be fine without 1 vise versa. What would you prefer?

No, it's written as intended. We're confident that the it's pretty balanced relative to their other parentage options in the book.

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
