Witchlight for the Combat-Starved (Thither)

ADD TO WISHLIST >

Welcome to Witchlight for the Combat-Starved! This is the second of three supplements to help you add combat to this admittedly low-combat campaign. This supplement adds random encounters and three sidequests to Chapter 3: Thither. These sidequests include:

  • Hunting Carbuncle the Behir Sommelier. Carbuncle is the worst kind of wine snob. He has captured creatures from Thither, chained them to picnic tables, and subjected them to his wine tasting class. This monster must be stopped.
  • Hunting Bartholomew the Chimera. What happens when a little hill giant girl takes her pet chimera out for walkies? It's going to take some work to capture this pet.
  • Facing the medusa called Madame Blanchet and solving the Three Riddles of Fort Refwill. Can your party win the game of riddles?

There are random encounters including a Gorilla Barbershop Quartet, surviving an assault by a Kuo-toa Marching Band, settling a dispute with Hobgoblin Lumberjacks, mowing down a Shambling Flower Mound, dispatching a clutch of Picnic Thri-Kreen, and dealing with Business Orcs. These encounters are purpose-built to give your party a fully-justified reason to cast fireball or hit things in the face with weapons.

In addition to the encounters, this supplement also includes the following:

  • The Mirror of Flattery
  • The Vanity Manticore
  • Tennis Racquet of Unrelenting Volleys
  • The Cabin at the Water's Edge, a new location serving as a hub for the new sidequests
  • A strange, militarized Domain of Delight called Ordalasia
  • Heikegani, a giant crab archfey who just wants to go home
  • Lucky Fishing Geara new set of magic items
  • Stat blocks for new monsters including the kuo-toa marching band, Heikegani, the Wicked Wood Woad, and more
  • Full color Player and DM maps of Fort Refwil

And for the combat-starved among us, we salute you.

Update May 16, 2022: Printer-friendly version now included.

Ran this with my group. Gives my players the option of engaging in combat, while still preserving a pacifist playthrough, all while maintaining the whimsical atmosphere of the setting. Highly recommend!

Absolutely loved the Hither module.. but this Thither module is littered with errors, most especially in Fort Refwill. Directions wrong, map not labelled, letters & directions on sundial wrong, no statblock for Madame Blanchet... Not impressed. Worried about Yon, now.

Yes, that will be the final installment. It should be online in the next week or two.

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
