Strixhaven Supplemental Volume IV: The Bulletin Board

ADD TO WISHLIST >

Strixhaven Supplemental Volume IV: The Bulletin Board is intended to be a companion to Strixhaven: A Curriculum of Chaos.  Contained within are 43 extracurriculars including 27 originals run by professors and staff from Volume I and expanded notes and associated rolls from the 16 published extracurriculars (after all, why does the Dead Language Society use Athletics and why does the Show Band use Sleight of Hand?).

Also included within is a small amount of additional details on jobs along with ideas for five freelance positions students can take in their third or fourth years.  These jobs are higher risk but higher reward.

Finally I've included two different versions of silkball!  WotC provided very little to go on for Silkball rules but I looked more closely and found 8 different facts about silkball from the book.  Each version of the game uses a magical item which is also included in these pages.

I'm gonna hold off on reviewing for a while, I like the content, I really do, but... no bookmarks, no functional table of contents, and no searchable text makes the entire series a pain of PDFs to navigate through, as well as use. I'm sure you might have personal reasons to make the pages images instead of functional texts, but I for one and a lot of people copy text not for nefarious reasons but to import it into private resources like DDB or Roll20 to use during play. And even when reading and referencing, the only option is to scroll and actively look for what you need. On top of that, while I cannot speak from experience, from what I do understand, non-text like this makes your products virtually inaccessible to those who rely on reader programs for vision impairment reasons. So yeah; bookmarks and searchable text (which I think would fix the table of contents issue, looks like they are some sort of link you just can't click on them) would make all of these MUCH better resources.

Yes, my reason is that I used homebrewery to make this and I don't have Adobe. I'm looking into trying to fix this but I've been away all weekend and can't do much when my PC is at home. I promise I'll do my best to see what I can do with this during this upcoming week, my apologies!

Hey Joshua, unfortunately without adobe it looks like getting an active table of contents in with functional links is a bit tricky. However I did upload a searchable version for each volume this evening! My apologies for the lack of functionality from the get-go!

Yes! It has not been published yet but will include magic items and stat blocks for creatures and NPCs the book did not introduce. I promised some folks on r/StrixhavenDms that I would get this one out relatively quickly. I published it as 4 instead of 3 because volume 1 references a dragonsguard stat block being in volume 3. Sorry for the confusion!!

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
