The party wakes up from a deep sleep to find themselves marked with strange blue tattoos. These are no ordinary tattoos, as the azure ink shimmers with a deep magic. Five distinct symbols, aligned on the sword arm of each character. The group has no recollection of how they got there, but feels a deep sense that these marks serve an insidious purpose. Who put them there and why? How can they be removed? These answers await as the group embarks on the adventure Return of the Azure Bonds.

This adventure is a spiritual successor to Curse of the Azure Bonds, the adventure, novel, and computer game from earlier editions. Characters wake up with no recollection how mysterious tattoos appeared on their bodies and must unravel the mystery while resisting the effects of the bonds. New and familiar faces await as they traverse the Kingdom of Cormyr looking for answers.

Return of the Azure Bonds is a Tier 2 adventure for characters of levels 6-9.

This product includes:

  • A full six chapter adventure that takes characters to various locations in the Cormyr region of the Forgotten Realms as they seek to learn who is behind the mysterious bonds.

  • 10 maps that help visualize the locations and encounters found within the adventure.

  • 31 stat blocks, including several original NPCs and creatures as well as easy reference to existing ones.

  • Professional presentation and layout featuring the symbols represented by the bonds.

  • 9 original pieces of interior artwork in the black and white line style of classic D&D products.

Content Warning

This adventure is based upon scenarios where the Azure Bonds curse compels the characters to perform certain tasks. This is similar to spells such as charm person and suggestion and may not be suitable for players uncomfortable with mind control effects. There are also scenes that involve: blackmail; missing persons; harm in front of children; body mutilation (eyes being removed); human sacrifice.

Are the maps included only in the PDF? Or is it meant to be a separate download? If so, I don't see it.

There was not originally a separate download for the maps, but I just added one. If you check "My Library" you should now see a zip file available that contains the maps as separate files. Thanks for pointing it out, and hope you enjoy the adventure!

Hello Artie,
I want to avoid posting spoilers, but I will say this adventure takes place many years after the original. Thanks for the interest!

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.
Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
