Dragons of Waterdeep

Dragons in Waterdeep? Indeed there are...numerous in fact. And not just in Waterdeep, but around and below as well.

Written primarily for Dungeon Masters and game designers looking to add some additional flavor to their Waterdeep campaign, this publication significantly expands on the dragons in, under, and around the City of Splendors. It also includes additional details on how and why all these dragons are in (or around) Waterdeep and how a party might interact with them; additional information on Ahghairon’s dragonward (beyond what was provided in Waterdeep: Dragon Heist); new magic items, spells, and monsters; and a solo adventure for any level. This document is divided into six chapters:

 GargoyleBookEnd

  1. Introduction. This includes additional details and clarifications on Ahghairon's dragonward, the history of The Confluence, and the ‘Expulsion’ of the dragons from Waterdeep.
  2. Hidden Dragons of Waterdeep. This describes some of the dragons living in Waterdeep that can be built into a campaign as adventure seeds, Patrons, adventures unto themselves, or just random encounters. It includes 5 dragons (including Patron information) as well as expands on both Aurinax and Zelifarn (beyond what's included in Waterdeep: Dragon Heist):
    • Adult steel dragons: Auntyrlothtor, Jalanvaloss, and Quituryte
    • Amythest greatwyrm: Eldenser
    • Ancient song dragon: Taraunramorlamurla
    • Chazlauth's Dragons: silver dragon wymrling
    • Dragons of WDDH: Aurinax, Wishes, and Zelifarn
  3. Dragons Around Waterdeep. There are many dragons within flying distance of Waterdeep, this chapter highlights a few that interact with, or are somehow connected to, the City of Splendors. Parties of any level may encounter these outside of Waterdeep, or may have to deal with some of the political and commercial influences of those dragons within the city.
    • Adult topaz dragon, Gaulauntyr
    • Ancient black dragon, Shammagar
    • Ancient blue dragon, Olothontor
    • Ancient green dragon, Claugiyliamatar
    • Ancient red dragon, Jhannexydofalamarne
    • Ancient white dragon, Arveiaturace
  4. Dragons Under Waterdeep. This summarizes some of the numerous dragons in Undermountain and why they might interact with the city, its residents, or a player party of any level. Several of these are featured in Waterdeep: Dungeon of the Mad Mage, but this publication goes on to discuss why they might directly interact with an adventuring party that isn't in Undermountain. This chapter also provides additional hook ideas to get a party deeper into Undermountain.
    • Adult black dragon: Vulharindauloth
    • Adult bronze shadow dragon: Umbraxakar
    • Adult steel dragon: Stalgma Steelshadow
    • Brass dragon wyrmling: Dabshabah
    • Faerie dragon: Otto
    • Pseudodragon: Epsis
    • Reds of the Githyanki and their eggs
    • Young blue dragons: Nystalancer and Venasorrn
  5. Equipment, Magic Items, Monsters, and Spells. These are 5e adaptions of items discussed in novels or legacy D&D editions.
    • Equipment: dridersilk robes, dridersilk shirt, dridersilk rope, spidersilk robes, spidersilk rope
    • Magic Item: Jhamkkan's Talon
    • Dragon Parts: Numerous ideas for harvested or gifted dragon parts including scales, bones, bile, blood, meat, and hide
    • Monsters: Brain Worm, Deep Rothé, Swarm of Hoard Beetles
    • Spells: Scattergloom, Steelsting
  6. Dragon Tower - A Solo Adventure. This is a short solo adventure designed for any level of play and is 5e adaption of a portion of the 1989 solo adventure Knight of the Living Dead. It can be handed out by the DM to players to complete on their own time.

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
