Hi, this is a great guide! But one thing I couldn’t find anywhere are the art credits. I’d like to look up some of these pieces! Thanks!

Hey, Dylan, I love what you’ve done with this, and hope to use some of your ideas when I run the Witchlight adventure soon. But I’m confused by the section on “Zybilna’s Desires”. How exactly are the jewels “embedded in” the dretches’ bodies? How are they extracted? How are the memories in them manifested, and what exactly happens at that point? Do all the characters experience the memory, or just the one who activated it? Resolving the memory causes the dretch to disappear, but is this the same as killing it in the original, i.e. it causes an upswell of that emotion in Zybilna, or is it safely deposited into one of the cradles in area P37?

Many thanks!

For my two Witchlight games, I ran it where the jewels were embedded in the belly buttons of the dretches and merely touching them would cause the memory to manifest (although one group decided pulling each dretch's finger was a better way to go about it). I had all of the player characters experience the memory, allowing them to interact with it as they saw fit after setting the scene, but any NPC pals they might have along didn't appear with them, which highlighted that there was some special connection there between the PCs and Zybilna.

Unless the characters actually KILL the dretch, I wouldn't say it counts as "killing" like in the original. The exact effects that resolving each memory has on Zybilna is largely left up to what the PCs do during that memory. If they help her, you should definitely have her react better to them later on than if they treat her like dirt or side against her.

For example, I had some PCs who helped her when she was a...See more

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
