Rise of Tiamat: Chapter 9 Guide

ADD TO WISHLIST >

N.B. The council sessions are spread across the chapter guides

I found it frustrating that they are not in chronological order in the original adventure. Information for each council session is at the beginning of the chapter guides below (with an updated council score card at the end of each one).

1st Council - Chapter 9 guide
2nd Council - Chapter 12 guide
3rd Council - Chapter 15 guide
4th Council - Chapter 17 guide

How to Blow a Draakhorn and Form Alliances

The first adventure to be published for 5th edition Dungeons & Dragons, Tyranny of Dragons is a great adventure but requires a greater amount of DM planning than others.

That is where this guide comes in – it cuts down on the planning with updated and simple descriptions, fixes and suggestions to make each chapter come alive for you and your players with minimal effort from you – the DM.

This chapter covers guidance for chapter 9 of Rise of Tiamat. Stay tuned for upcoming DM guides for each chapter.

Hi Mark,
I just bought this guide expecting it to cover all of the council sessions, but it has information only for the first one. Did you include it in your other chapter guides ? (I'm looking specifically for the 3rd council).

Hi Paul-Henri,
Yes - sorry that must be frustrating. I spread them out across the chapter guides as found it frustrating that they are not in chronological order in the original adventure. Information for the 3rd council session is at the beginning of the chapter 15 guide (with an updated council score card at the end).

1st Council - Chapter 9 guide
2nd Council - Chapter 12 guide
3rd Council - Chapter 15 guide
4th Council - Chapter 17 guide

I will update the above and email you now to sort it out.

Since Kingdoms & Warfare by MCDM is not yet available, would the rules in Strongholds and Followers be enough for the warfare ruleset?
The stat block for the Arcane Brotherhood in Chapter 10 has a lot in common with the example on page 232 of S&F.

Hi Michael, so there should be a digital pdf of K&W available for sale on the MCDM website. I haven't checked the warfare rules in S&F for a while having based everything for ROT on the warfare rules in K&W so can't say 100%. My understanding is that there were only minor changes made from S&F to K&W. Tbh, I think that either way you will end up adapting the rules into the level of complexity that feels comfortable for your table anyway. Hope that helps, happy gaming!

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
