DDEP10-02 Song of Spears

Kaskur Spearsong and those loyal to him, in an attempt to show Old Goat what actual
leadership looks like, entered Xorvintroth to rescue the missing clan members and bit
off more than they could chew. However, they found something other than their kin in
the ruins of the ancient Abeiran city—and unwittingly brought it back with them. Will
their foolish endeavors spell the end of the Thuunlakalaga clan?

A Three-Hour Epic for 5th- through 13th-Level Characters.
Optimized for APL 8 and APL 11.

Single Table Play
Guidance is included in this Epic for a single DM to run the adventure for a single table.

Epics in Online Play
One of the attractions of Epic play is the feeling of camaraderie instilled by playing in a large area filled with excited players, as well as the face-to-face interaction between groups and NPCs in that setting. The pandemic we currently face makes such gatherings problematic. Much D&D play has moved online, and that medium offers both challenges and opportunities.

Throughout this adventure, we provide sidebars to discuss and offer suggestions for porting the Epic experience to an online venue.

I’m planning to run the entire Plague of Ancients storyline for my group, how does this factor into the storyline? Is it a direct part of the story or more of a side quest or alternative timeline kind of thing? Is there a part in between modules where this fits in?

I am planning on running this in person with just one group to conclude the Plague of Ancients storyline. There is no stat block for the tentacled maw (only the tentacles, not the maw itself). I assume that players must defeat all the aberrations on the room to defeat the maw, is this correct?

I think the whole "this was written with online play in mind" is contradicted a bit by appendix B of the guidance document. Which essentially advises you that, to run the Epic in an online environment you turn it into "a bunch of tables running isolated adventures". The only element surviving adjustments is an Admin compiling results from part 2.

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.
Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
