"The Vestiges long bound stir in their sarcophagi, they call from the Ethereal to their champions, and their dark designs will soon be revealed"

Version 2.0 released

This includes the new chapter Wraths of the Vestiges, which includes 17 pages on how to punish characters for their insolence. Each Vestige has an event-like wrath to help them push back against third tier champions trying to sever themselves. Easily find inspiration on how to cement the divinely dread nature of these Vestiges.

If you already own this product, you should be able to download the new version without having to checkout again.

Why Visions of the Vestiges

One of the most interesting things in the Ravenloft setting is the mysterious Amber Temple and the Vestiges bound within it. However, I personally found the campaign book was rather bare-bones on these Vestiges and I sought to improve and extend them in my own campaign, and now I hope to share it with you.

This supplement is meant to help DMs bring the Vestiges in as agents in the setting, as challengers to Strahds reign with visions of their own for Barovia, wishing to see it transformed to their liking as it has been to Vampyrs.

This supplement I hope can be used both by new DMs, current and returning DMs of this setting.

Overview

Vestige lore

Each Vestige has a full page dedicated to explain a possible origin, method of imprisonment and first reactions as the plane became shrouded in mist. It should help the DM flavor each Vestige as necessary and give them a voice.

Artifacts

The Vestiges has had champions prior to the party's arrival, and these artifacts may still be found in the land of Barovia. Many have suggested locations, but about half of them are left intentionally blank so the DM may conveniently place them when it makes sense.

Vestige Wraths

Each Vestige has access to a number of general and event-based Wraths that can be employed to direly threaten an individual or party. What happens when a champion wants to sever themselves from their Vestige? Find out!

Champion Powers

The Vestiges vie for domination of the valley, but to do that they must have their own champions first and surplant the current ruler, champion of Vampyr: the dread lord Strahd von Zarovich.

From tier 1 to 3, each Vestige provides specific boons to their champion. But beware you do not invoke their wrath. With great power comes great expections.

Events

Made for players to encounter some of the influences of the Vestiges in Barovia, with living NPC champions and long dead champions.

Amber Temple Lore

With a basis in the conventional gods of the Faerûn world, several pages are dedicated to explaining the Amber Temple's origins, patron gods and suggested reasons on why the various Vestiges have been imprisoned.

Though entirely freeform, it should be easily adaptable to whatever pantheons your world is working with. It suggests a partnership of several deities of the lawful and magical nature.

Other work...

Check out my other supplement The Spellbinders Tome, a collection of Masteries to turn your spell casting NPCs and PCs into masters of the spiritual, arcane and primal!

I just skimmed through the book looking for The Evening Glory. I note that you have Zhudun, but I don't see her. Did you rename her, change her aspect, or just ditch her entirely?

Hi there James, and thank you for your interest! I am not familiar with The Evening Glory? The Vestiges I've used are from the 5e curse of Strahd campaign book. If the Vestige you are referencing is from earlier/different material, that's probably why it isn't included.

The vestige version is from Misty Fortunes and Absent Hearts, which is indeed 5e canon.

Yep, that would be different material than the campaign book and why it wasn't included then. If I make an update I might add it, however I don't have any plans to do so presently. I hope you enjoy the product regardless ^^

No expectation, but just out of curiosity - are there any updates planned past 2.02?

At the moment I'm not working on VotV, I am pretty content where it is. I have however started work on another supplement for 5e, which will have a bit more width and go beyond Curse of Strahd. I might do some work on VotV in Autumn if I find the time, mainly I think people are looking for a sort of guide to making their own Vestige.

Is there anything in particular that you felt was needed in it? Also, thank you for purchasing it :)

Hey Mads. The new v2.0 is terrific! Although I can't do searches on the PDF for some reason like I can on v1.2. Any suggestions?

Thanks for the report B C C, a new version (2.01) has been uploaded that fixes this. It was caused by the way I converted it to PDF from Homebrewery, I simply had to change it around a bit. Enjoy, and thanks for your compliment ^^

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
