The Shadow Fey: a Guide to the Fey of Ravenloft

ADD TO WISHLIST >

All forms of horror lurk in the Mists: the shambling dead, the ravenous beasts, the slavering abominations, the conniving fiends, all these and more can be found in the dark and terror of Ravenloft. But what of the fey? What kind of horrors can the fey bring? This supplement aims to show DMs the full extent to which the fey can be horrifying.

This supplement gives you the tools you need to pit your players against a myriad of fey monsters. You will find stats for monsters such as the dreaded avanc that lurks at the bottom of Lake Kronov, the sadistic powrie that roam the wilds of Tepest, and even learn of the fey that haunt Barovia and serve the dangerous archfey Ceithlenn of the Crooked Teeth. Most exciting of all, though, you will learn of the fantastic land beneath the dreaded Mount Arak: the kingdom of Loht and Maeve!

If we hit Gold, we intend to expand on this supplement by going into greater detail of the fey's presence in Tepest, the fey that attend to the Carnival, the Nightmare Court, and more!

Hi, I have a question about the Art Pack that is included with the purchase of this product. Having purchased the product, would I be permitted to use those works of art in other DMsGuild products (with appropriate credit to the artist whose initials appear in each file name)? Or are those only intended for personal use? Either way, thanks; I love the art!

That's a good question, and the answer is no. I included that art for DMs to be able to use for things like roll20 and to easily share with their players. Thank you very much for asking!

I'm not allowed to write reviews due to having a publisher's account, but I wrote a review on this book. 5 Stars in my book.

I purchased this solely off of my personal nostalgia for the “Ravenloft – The Shadow Rift” adventure that was first published in 1998 for Advanced Dungeons & Dragons – 2nd Edition. As a collector of Ravenloft materials, I felt an overwhelming need to have this in my digital library and if it were offered as a physical copy, I would order that as well.

Before I dive into my overall impressions, I’d like to stress that with most indie developers that most do not have a lot of resources to put towards editing teams. I know this from personal experiences. Sometimes, with indie titles, a reader may come across redundancies, sentences that could have flowed smoother, as well as spelling or grammatical errors. I’m not interested in touching on any of those items in this review unless of course its so horrid that it makes the book unreadable. I have yet...See more

Thank you so much for your incredibly kind review! This was our most ambitious product yet, so it is incredibly gratifying to see a long time fan of the original source material finding so much use and enjoyment out of it!

This supplement has nothing to do with Lolth or the drow as a whole. The Shadow Fey are not drow, but are instead a variety of fey native to the Domains of Dread. Though they did have some interactions with the drow in their original 2e history, that history is at odds with the new cosmology of the Domains of Dread, so it's been mostly discarded. For the purposes of running Tristessa for Servants of Darkness, I would personally recommend using the sith statblock, since that's going to be the closest representation of her, though if you want to up the challenge, you could alternatively use Loht's statblock and just ignore the Shared Soul and Sword of Arak traits.

Are shadow fey different from creatures from the Shadowfell?

Shadow fey are a variety of fey that live in Ravenloft, which is itself in the Shadowfell. I hope that answers your question!

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
