Darklords of Ravenloft

The Domains of Dread belong to the Darklords of Ravenloft—prisoners and overlords forced to suffer for all eternity—and yet Van Richten's Guide to Ravenloft does not provide these legendary figures meaningful statistics. This product fills that gap with statistics for all sixteen Darklords but at various tiers of play. Face Strahd von Zarovich as a Tier II, III or IV villain! Battle the mummy lord Ankhtepot at 5th-level or 17th! Face the bloodthirsty Chakuna and despair, no matter petty powers you've amassed!

Every Darklord enjoys at least two sets of statistics, allowing the Dungeon Master to craft adventures that best fit their party's level. These statistics are predicated on three core principles:

Legendary Figures. Every Darklord is, at a minimum, deserving of the Legendary Resistance feature—for the Dark Powers will not so easily let go of their playthings. Even the meeker Darklords, such as the fragile Viktra Mordenheim, manage to shrug off blows and survive spells. Starting in Tier II, all Darklords also enjoy Legendary Actions. All Darklords have access to Lair Actions—except poor Hazlik, tormented by the Dark Powers—as befitting a Domain master.

Abstract Hit Points. Hit points are already an abstract means to measure health, stamina, and one’s proximity to death. This supplement embraces this versatility. Even meeker Darklords enjoy a greater number of hit points than their base counterparts. A blow might be compromised or blunted by the Dark Powers; it might even miss entirely, but drain the Darklord’s stamina (if not the Dark Powers’ patience).

Not All Darklords Are Equal. Obeying lore, logic, and realism, many of the Darklords have a ceiling of power. Try as she might, Viktra Mordenheim, a mere scientist, can never compare to the mummy lord Ankhtepot or the vampire Strahd von Zarovich. Although the supplement provides multiple versions of every Darklord, some reach a maximum challenge rating earlier than others. Some, like Strahd, have a higher minimum challenge rating.

I think this would make a fantastic product for the Fantasy Grounds Virtual Tabletop. If you search my name (Rob Twohy) here on DMs Guild you can see we've done this over 400 times. We offer this service at NO COST. It will be more exposure for your product and a new audience as well. Feel free to contact me in Facebook Messenger ( and I will explain how it all works.

ThanX for your consideration.

I purchased this thinking there would certainly be an entry for Azalin Rex, the Darklord of Darkon (before he left). The book even gives multiple examples of how he could still be alive, and an adjusted Stat Block for a powerful Lich complete with Legendary Actions could be universally useful even if I weren't writing a campaign for this setting. Sad to see him missing, as I would likely not have purchased this if I had known he wouldn't be in here. I get that the domain is technically listed as not having one, but he's an essential part of its existence either way, and it feels misleading to market this as "containing stats for every darklord" and then deliberately not include either a list of those Darklords presented within, or a list of those Excluded for whatever reason. Oh well, guess I should have taken it literally and not assumed, its only 5 bucks so its not the end of the world either way, and what is here is certainly nice to have.

Azalin is awesome! But also, if you'd looked at the book's preview, it begins with a Table of Contents that lists all of the Dark Lords it contains. So the authors were definitely not being misleading. I'd definitely encourage you to check out books' previews in purchasing supplements from DM's Guild.

Ah, fair enough. I definitely overlooked that, as I've had issues loading the previews in the past where it would just redirect me to the home page of DMsGuild. It does seem to work for this book however, so I suppose that's my bad. And I do want to be clear, I think this product is certainly worth its price, what IS here is very good.

Hi there. Van Richten's Guide to Ravenloft stated that Darkon is without a darklord now that Azalin Rex escaped the Domains of Dread, hence why I didn't write statistics for him. This is noted in the "Miscellaneous Notes" section on the Introduction page. That being said, I'm sorry you felt mislead.

I thought this might have been a pre-Van Richten's item that I overlooked. Glad I didn't waste my money.

If you are specifically looking for Azalin he can be found in a similar guide: Who's Doomed: The Lords of Ravenloft

I would recommend purchasing both these guides and then you can pick which variant of the other darklords works best for your scenario.

I got this last night after pondering all day on if i should get it. Of course i went straight to big daddy Strahd to see what you gave him. I have read the design features and i am rather befuddled by giving him vampiric touch as a level 3 spell on tiers 3 and 4 it seems very counter intuative to what he does a XXX attack would deal more damage overall with the added piercing and restore more hp than vampiric touch would.

In the "Design Philosophy" section for Strahd, I explain that I chose Strahd's spells around the themes of death, blood, and frost. Vampiric Touch is a very thematic spell, despite it being a little redundant with Strahd's vampiric XXX. I would disagree that one sub-optimal spell of nineteen prepared spells is counterintuitive, especially when you consider it leaves the possibility of using magic items to further boost its potential.

Edit: For some reason the word "b i t e" is being replaced with "XXX" in the comments.

Slight mistake on Ivana Boritsi; she’s listed with two Tier II.

Bought it. Because I am curious to see what you will do with it. Extremely choppy file on my PDF reader though.... Foxit is having a hard time rendering all of that!

Hey folks, we'll have a printer friendly file uploaded by the end of the week. Our layout artist's Macbook is being hold hostage by a local technician.

Rules Edition(s)
Original electronic
Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.
Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
