Grod's Grimoire of the Grotesque

ADD TO WISHLIST >

Grod's Grimoire of the Grotesque is all about change.  Between these covers you'll find uncountable ways to bend races, classes, and even the game itself to your will.  From the gritty limits of Vetern Sixth to the world-shaking might of Mythic Powers, from alternate ability scores to no abilities altogether, Grod's Grimoire has everything you need to make the game your own.

  • Seven ways to change the rules, offering new ways to handle ability scores, health, weapons, armor, rests, and epic levels.
  • Five new subsystems, with expanded rules for non-combat encounters, downtime, firearms, allied characters, and heroes of myth.
  • A whole chapter for low-magic games, and all the challenges they involve--including two new base classes and eight subclasses to offer players exciting new options.
  • New versions of the Ranger, Sorcerer, and Warlock, improving balance, playability, and making the classes utterly unique.
  • And more!

The Language of the Wild secret for the Archivist doesn't seem to have a level 6 feature. Is this by design because of the sheer number of spells they gain access to, or is the fact that all those spells still need to be cast as rituals considered the balancing factor at level 3 (and the missing level 6 feature is an oversight)?

I... probably should have added a ribbon, but the lack of a strong 6th level feature was intentional--not only do they get access to a lot of extra spells, but the new spells are STRONG. You don't need Extra Attack or a damage aura when you can whip up a Conjure Animals or Polymorph.

I suspected as much. Follow up question, does the Thirteen Runes secret Runic Sympathy feature have an effect for inscribed Enchantment spells?

It certainly should--I'm not sure what happened there.

Enchantment: As a bonus action, designate one creature. You may use your Intelligence score in place of Charisma for your next interaction with them. After having done so, the creature cannot be targeted again until you have completed a long rest.

Hello!

I’m having some trouble parsing the archivist class. Are the six spells you get at the start drawn from the Archivist list? If not, how do you renew them?

If so, are the two additional ritual spells the ritual caster ability says I should take a typo? It’s very difficult to parse.

Third. The minor sympathies ability says I start with three sympathies, the table says two. Which one or correct?

Damn it... the first sentence is a copy-paste error from the Wizard. It should be two spells from the Archivist list. As for the Sympathies, text over table-- you start with 3, )gain one from your subclass at 3rd), and get new ones at 5th, 9th, 13th, and 17th.

I very much apologize for the errors. I'll fix them as soon as I can get a little more time with PDF editing software.

Thank you so much for the reply.

As an aside. Your low magic options are a life saver. Between them, a spell-less ranger I dug up and the scholar class, I've finally got a solid roster for a low magic game.

As an FYI I think there’s a typo with curse of pain. A 1d6 changes into a 1d8.

UGH. Again, I deeply apologize. Curse of Pain should be d8s.

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
