Outlandish Adventure Productions presents:

The Shaman, a full spellcasting class of ritual casting and spiritual connection! Shamans learn sacred rituals that allow them to contact and commune with spirits, expanding their knowledge of rituals into becoming ritual casting specialists. The shaman spell list contains only cantrips and ritual spells they can prepare, and they can cast these spells of 1st level and higher only as rituals. Their dynamic, spell slot casting comes by forming and cultivating relationships with a number of Spirit Guides, then channeling those spirits to gain access to their knowledge and powers:

Air Spirit - Control the wind and storms

Ancestral Spirit - Guide and protect a community

Animal Spirit - Gain connections with all beasts of the wilds and imbue yourself and others with bestial traits

Benevolent Spirit - Utilize magic born of good will to empower, heal, comfort, and cure

Earth Spirit - Move the earth and influence the growth of plants

Fire Spirit - Wield incredible heat and flame

Lost Spirit - Travel between the boundaries of reality and inflict disorientation upon your enemies

Malevolent Spirit - Command and strike with forces of evil

Mishievous Spirit - Channel your inner prankster poltergeist

Mournful Spirit - Control emotions and create connections to others

Vengeful Spirit - Strike at singular enemies with focused attacks and debilitating spells

Warrior Spirit - Embrace the use of weapons and enter the fray

Water Spirit - Wield the tides and frost

Spiritual Practices

Each adventuring shaman chooses a Shamanic Practice that specializes the way they channel their spiritual powers and gives them a consistent way to use their spell slots.

Exorcism - Mark your foes with a Banishing Brand that makes your attacks deal additional damage and that banishes extraplanar invaders when they're defeated!

Sympatheticim - Utilize sympathetic magic to bind your Spirit Guides to others through the use of a symbolic focus, blessing the innocent and your allies while cursing tyrants and your enemies!

Totemism - Summon totems that channel your Spirit Guides' abilities and allow you to dominate a portion of the battlefield!

Warchanting - Engage in a battle song that improves the resilience and battle capabilites of each ally who can hear it!

Witch Medicine - Brew your Spirit Guides' spells into tinctures that any creature can drink to cast the spell!

The Shaman Class also includes 19 spells, 8 of which are exclusive to the shaman spell list!

I wrote this class when I was inspired by an exploration of the Cherokee ancestry on my mom's side of the family and became fascinated with how shamanism presents in cultures throughout the world. It wouldn't have been possible to respectfully and accurately portray those practices without the supervision of two sensitivity readers:

- Lynn Brown, who consulted on the base class, as well as Sympatheticism (based on African diaspora religions) and Witch Medicine (based on African witch doctors)

- Jesse Craighead, who consulted on the base class, as well as Totemism (based on the practices and beliefs of Native American tribes in the United States' Pacific Northwest) and Warchanting (based on Cherokee war shamans)

Harrowing Apparition seems to have a typo. Currently it only deals the extra 1d6 force damage to creature that CAN'T be frightened, rather than one that is frightened (and affected by the spell). Is that intentional? Seems weird to have the spirit harm only those unaffected.

Other than that, my only gripe is that there's no feature to allow casting of a Shaman Ritual Spell with a spell slot. It means that most of the cool new shaman spells are pretty much unusable thanks to the incredibly short uptime. It'd be nice if you could use a higher spell slot to cast a ritual at its base or a lower level than the spent slot. Just a little worried that the majority of their abilities will be similar between different Shaman characters.

Hi, Andrew!

That isn't a typo in Harrowing Apparition, but an intentional choice. The spell either makes the creature's enemies frightened, or offers a vindictive damage boost against enemies that can't be frightened. Basically, the flavor is that the spirit is mad at the things it can't scare.

At early levels, yes, it will be difficult to use some of the new ritual spells, but the Ritual Potency and Spirited Ritual upcasting, as well as the Hastened Ritual feature and new Forecast spell all allow for them to be used a bit more dynamically, at least with preparation. Additionally, since almost all of the spells have either a base duration of 10 minutes or are useful out of combat, the Ritual Adept feature makes it so it takes a tenth of the time to cast them, allowing you to keep them active much more often than you might think at 2nd level and beyond. Really enjoyed this take on a shaman character class, only have one potential issue with the pdf;
-On page 3 for the Spell slots section needs clearing up a bit here; I'm assuming what it's trying to say is "The Shaman Table shows how many spell slots you have available to cast as spells granted by a spirit guide you're channeling (see the Medium Feature later in the class description)" I do understand this more after reading the whole pdf, just the wording of this at first made it hard to understand at the time.

Otherwise I've got no other real issues with this class and likely be using it ^_^, hopefully you might do a Oracle-like class one day? Thanks for all of your content as I really enjoy some of your past classes as well.

Thank you, James! While I'm not sure yet what full classes I'll be writing in the future, you can at least get a bit of your Oracle fix with the Sight Sigil subclass for my Odic class, or with the Prophecy Domain Cleric subclass in the Complete Devout Handbook!

These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.
Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
