Uncertain Life

ADD TO WISHLIST >

You are languishing in a prison cell, awaiting execution, when a mysterious man opens a portal into your cell and offers you the chance of freedom. With no prior knowledge of the man, you have to make the decision...

Will you face certain death in the morning, or step through the portal and embrace an Uncertain Life?

Whether you are looking for something to do between regular play sessions, you are having trouble finding a group, or if you want to feel out how a new character will play, this adventure is for you.

Inspired by the 'Fighting Fantasy" and "Lone Wolf" role-playing gamebooks that were popular in the 80s and 90s. This adventure is available in both A4 and US Letter, hyperlinked pdf formats; and can be played either as a standalone solo adventure, or DM+1. This adventure will take a player from level 0-3.

In this adventure, you will take on the role of an innocent (or maybe not so innocent) prisoner. Brought to Candlekeep by an elderly mage who has picked you as his best hope for success in the following mission. But first you will have to pass a test. Starting at level 0 you must find your mentor to be with only the skills from your background, and the few items you can scrounge from a derelict tower to help you.

If you find your mentor in time, you can begin your training proper.

Hi, I just purchased this and I'm really excited but noticed the maps are all in a pdf. Is it possible to get a version of the maps separate? They're a lot of work to import onto roll20 as is.

Hi. Thank you for your purchase. What format would work best for the maps? I can try and get them up by the weekend.

That's really great of you. JPEG would be best but PNG would also be good. Thank you

Currently playing through the adventure. Great so far, but #162 is formatted incorrectly.

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
