DotMM: Boxed Flavor Text and Combat Tracker - Level 6: Lost Level (Waterdeep: Dungeon of the Mad Mage)

ADD TO WISHLIST >

If you’re like me, you like to step into a game fully prepared. I picked up Waterdeep: Dungeon of the Mad Mage and was really disappointed to see that there was no boxed flavor text. Don’t get me wrong, there’s a lot of great content in there, but I have a hard time coming up with room descriptions on the spot. I’m hoping there are others like me out there, others who will be able to take advantage of what I’m preparing for my own players. The idea is to slowly, over the course of the next year, release flavor text for each level of Undermountain. This module contains descriptions for the sixth floor (Lost Level) only!

I've never been a fan of catch-all descriptions, so I attempted to approach each area from several angles (if necessary). This means that some rooms will be broken down into several sections. Here are some of the most common:

Occupied - The occupants are still in the room (e.g. an alarm has not been sounded) and are not aware of the PC's existence. This is often followed by...

If Seen - The occupied tag assumes that the PC's have not been seen (perhaps masked by Stealth or Invisibility). This next section is what occurs when the PC's are seen.

Unoccupied - The occupants of the room are no longer present (e.g. an alarm has been sounded and they rushed off somewhere).

Also Included: EXCEL Combat tracker

Included in your purchase of this module (as a separate file) is an Excel workbook. This workbook is a combat tracker that contains summary stats for all monsters located within this floor. It also includes the ability to auto-calculate attack and damage rolls for each monster. While this file is formatted to work on Excel, you should also be able to use it in a free program (such as Google Sheets). It may not look as pretty in another program, but should still function properly.

Sample text from Level 5: Wyollowwood

20. Malar's Tabernacle (inside)

The floors of this room are tiled in green marble, their hue perfectly matched to the life-like forest scenes painted upon the walls. A tiger stalks amidst the painted trees, his eyes seeming to follow you wherever you go. This tiger is not alone, however, as several other predators hide within the shadowy scenery.

In the center of the room is a block of solid white marble, its surface stained in blood. A skeleton clad in tattered hide armor lies several feet away. The haft of a broken spear is still within the dead man’s hand, while the spear’s point lays near the block of marble. Near the corpse is a splintered shield, its wood charred nearly to cinder.

PLEASE NOTE

The original Waterdeep: Dungeon of the Mad Mage rulebook is required in order to use the contents of this work.

Such a time saver! Every level has been fantastic. Love that you added a word version for easy copying into Roll20 floor pages. Hope level 7 is coming out soon, players just wandered their this week. [...]

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
