Horrific Encounters in Ravenloft

The mists surround you and dread fills your heart. You find yourself surrounded by horrors previously unimaginable. You find yourself in Ravenloft, and the nightmare has only just begun.

Horrific Encounters in Ravenloft is a collection of over 2 dozen encounters and adventure hooks for parties to experience as they travel the Mistways and the Domains of Dread. With Van Richten's Guide to Ravenloft giving players and Dungeon Masters more freedom than ever to explore the demiplanes, these encounters are designed to be setting-agnostic so you can insert them wherever you need a little extra spookiness. You can have beholder encounters in Barovia, crash a witch's picnic in Hazlan, and fight off hordes of zombie cows and chickens in Falkovnia. If you're looking to pass the time while riding eternally on the Cyre-1313...you could do a lot worse than this book.

Additionally, Little House on the Scary is a short adventure/encounter chain based on Zach Moeller's "Mimic Colony" set of maps (which are free to download from their Patreon, links inside). Strahd's Castle Ravenloft is cool and all, but have you ever been in a house-sized Mimic trying to eat you? Don't worry...you will.

What is a Blood Witch as mentioned in Abandoned Picnic? The closest I can find is the Barovian Witch from Curse of Strahd but not sure if that is what you meant.

That one is in the Guildmasters’ Guide to Ravnica. Good catch— I will absolutely add in the note where it is.

Hmm. Ok, I just looked them on online as I don't have any interest in that book. I'll have to adapt the encounter to something else like hags or beefed up Barovian Witches.

The link to the free download of the mimic house map(s) doesn't work.

They're working for me when I download the file, but you can also find the post by Google searching for "Zach Moeller Mimic Colony." It is showing up as the first result for me with that term.

Ah, I miss understood. I thought that the link was above in the product description where you have 'free to download' in bold red. I haven't gotten far enough through to the mimic house yet to check the link in the PDF itself.

Totally understandable. Only certain domains can be linked to in descriptions, otherwise I totally would have linked it there.

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.
Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
