Behold, fair travelers of Barovia– here lie all the documents (and some extras!) that you need for D&D 5e's Curse of Strahd adventure. With both printer-friendly and parchment texture versions included, you can either print these at home and stain them with coffee/tea, or upload them to your preferred VTT as a virtual handout to show your players! Keep them fully immersed in the Demiplane of Dread and get some DM brownie points at the same time.

Standard Documents

These are all the classic handouts you need to run the adventure, redesigned for some aesthetic flair.

  • Kolyan Indirovich Letter #1
  • Kolyan Indirovich Letter #2
  • Pages from Van Richten's Journal
  • Pages from the Tome of Strahd
  • Pages from Argynvostholt
  • Invitation to dine from Strahd

Custom Documents

These aren't strictly necessary for your adventure, but are handouts that I created for my own Curse of Strahd campaign which I felt added to the immersion.

  • Festival of the Blazing Sun poster
  • Wolf's Head Jamboree poster
  • Invitation to dine from Lady Wachter
  • Bounty Notice for Strahd's creatures in Vallaki
  • A spell-casting menu for Adventurer's League hag Jeny Greenteeth (she owned an establishment called Jeny's Remedies in my campaign)
  • Celebration of the Century poster
  • Additional entries in the Tome of Strahd (with illustrations)
  • Wax seal options in case you'd like to print and glue them on documents
  • Van Richten's tower puzzle in vector form

In some instances, when a prop has multiple pages (like Van Richten's journal or the Tome of Strahd), there are two versions of the same document: one where pages are in page number order, and another that is in "booklet" style, which is meant to be printed double-sided and then folded in order to make the pages appear in the proper reading order.

I was wondering if you had a more legible copy of the extended Tome of Strahd as it would be handy for my players with english as a second language as the hand writing font can be tricky to read. Thanks

I am interested in adding a little to the already wonderfully made Tome of Strahd, but would like to know what font is used for the tome.

I'm really having difficulty putting together the booklet for the tome. I'm not sure the pages are lining up correctly. I'm not sure how many pages per signature and even if I place them where I think they go, I end up with a mess of nonsense at some point in the book. Thanks for any insight you can provide! Seems like a really great thing to add to a campaign!

I've figured it out... I think... There aren't multiple pages that need to be nested inside of each other from what I could figure.

Seconding--There's some formatting issues with the Indrovich Letter 2. It looks like the font wasn't properly embedded? Since I don't have (or even know) what font was used, my pdf viewer doesn't know how to display it and defaults to Ariel.

Is there any reason why some of the Tome of Strahd is written very lightly?

I am not the creator, but it seems to be just random lorem ipsum filler text to create more pages. perhaps old faded pages or blank pages where ink bled through?

Hello Carina, I was looking through the tome of strahd booklet and noticed hidden clues and such, which I find really cool.
But is there a document with the solutions for me as the DM?

So it looks like Indrovich Letter 2 has some formatting issues. The font is incorrect.

Hi Nathan! The font is different on purpose, since only one of the letters is actually written by Indirovich (Kolyan Indirovich Letter #2). In my campaign, I imagined that Strahd would have Rahadin write the first letter (Kolyan Indirovich Letter #1) rather than have to do it himself, hence the different fonts.

Oh! I’m just beginning to prep for my next campaign and was like… this is wrong LOL.

I’m curious as to what the font you chose was, on my end it looks “typed” and not handwritten.

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
