Fleshing Out Curse of Strahd: Old Bonegrinder

ADD TO WISHLIST >

A Full Guide and Expansion to one of Curse of Strahd's Deadliest Encounters!

Fleshing Out Curse of Strahd is a series of expansions and elaborations to the core Curse of Strahd campaign. The full series is a DM tool that adds depth to various NPCs, streamlines confusing plot lines, fills in plot holes, and alleviates some of the stress associated with TPK inducing encounters throughout the campaign.

Within Chapter 5: Old Bonegrinder, you'll find the following:

  • Travel & Encounters. Suggested encounters to use on the way to Old Bonegrinder that are story relevant!
  • Quick Reference Tables. Handy charts listing the names of NPCs and the questionable loot hidden within this terrible windmill.
  • Running Role-Play. How might you run this encounter as an RP opportunity? How do the hags behave without outright attacking the party?
  • Fight Advice. An in-depth analysis of one of the campaign's deadliest encounters! How can you make this fight fair and survivable without compromising immersion? How easy is it to destroy your party?

Like what you see? Keep up with the whole Fleshing Out series!

Turned out to be very helpful in providing minor details for my session, though still felt like something was missing, not sure what.

Addendum: My players noted that despite the nature of things, the mill was still making flour. Flour is flammable and explosive if in sufficient quantities in the air. With a couple sacks and some oil, they turned the windmill into a fuel air bomb. A word of caution to all you DMs out there.

Yeah, um.. this one is feeling more like a pamphlet.. maybe tack another chapter on to this offering to add to the value? We went from 37 pages to 15 to 8. :|

USEFUL though, please do continue! :D

I third this haha. Thankfully my group took a few months due to Covid, but we're hoping to pick up again soon and as a new DM, these have been absolutely invaluable. Not trying to rush, just insanely excited and love the supplements!

The PDFs are fantastic, but while you're waiting for new releases, this is all available on the CurseOfStrahd subreddit.

Hey Mandy. These are great. I should point out that there are a few typos in each one so far. This one wasn't too bad, I only found around 8 typos. I'm not sure how you want me to share them with you.

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
